blah blah British rubbish blah blah splendid Germanic blah

Should probably add at this juncture how it should be done. IIRC the Cash + Carry was the safest vehicle ever tested by EuroNCAP when it was brought to market. Well done brainy automotive engineers.

Crash safety? Everything is relative to the cars abilities and situation. No car new or old is totally safe in a smash. The Metro was safe enough for its day and age. Just like a Mk6 Golf is....but if you do drive like a twat...this will always happen....

I rather get killed in my P6 V8 and have lived, than survive in some newfangled globaltosh and continue a miserable shitty little life that wasn't worth living in the first place.

I was selling new Metros, sorry 100s, at the time of NCAP.  Sure it didn't help sales, but then there was already a 15 week waiting list.  Even when we sold out of stocks, we had an astonishing number of older folk wanting a new for S reg (Aug 1998).  Rover didn't convert these sales to 200s.  They just went and bought KIAs or Hyundais.

So NCAP compare a very old, dated, unfashionably small and slow selling British mini for a much larger, new Chinese Supermini. You could fit a 100-series into the boot of a new Jazz.  As pointed out, like for like would be a Punto or Polo.

At that time, the 100 was a FIAT 500 rival. Which failed the just just as bad.

Given that I spent quite a lot of my early adulthood, travelling on an RD350LC wet or dry or icy, I like to compare my crash safety in any motor vehicle to that.
