Vauxhall Omega Elite, 1997, in need of saving.

Ok, so anyone who's seen my Volvo 740 thread will be aware that my sisters boyfriends family have an estate to clear which includes, amongst other things this Omega.

 

All the other vehicles and the caravan are spoken for and safe but the poor old Omega is in need of a loving home!

 

So, it's a 1997 R reg Omega Elite estate with the 2.5 six pot diesel and auto box.

It's got no tax or MOT and has been sat for about a year and a half, but it has been started occasionally just to keep it running.

I've had a quick look today when I picked up the Volvo and it's a nice car. It's done 166k miles and has been owned by the family since 2001, before that it was the same family's company car so it has in effect had only one owner.

 

Condition wise, it's like my Volvo. It's been loved and looked after until about mid 2015 when it was parked up and the owner sadly passed away.

It's pretty dirty and covered in green algae and dirt from standing. The inside is similar, it's just in need of a really good clean.

There's the odd mark here and there to the paintwork but nothing serious and it looks like a very solid tidy old car that could very easily be made into something really nice with a bit of work.

There's a little bit of rust on the rear arch lips but at the moment it's just a few little blisters and if treated now it won't cause any grief.

The interior is grey leather, all ok by the looks of it but wants a clean as there's dust and small patches of mould here and there.

The only issue that has cropped up is the diesel pump has started to leak a bit but only when the engines running. It's not absolutely pissing out but does dribble a bit!

 

The owner said it still has diesel in the tank and he's confident it will start and drive anywhere.

The car needs to find a good home, ideally with someone who will take care of it and get it back on the road. I've only looked at it quickly but it does appear far too good to scrap and will make a good car with plenty of life left in it yet.

 

The car has it's V5 and at least some history available and it's located in Bath.

Quite a few people seemed keen in my Volvo thread so I thought I'd stick it up in it's own thread and let everyone have as fair as possible shout for it.

Hopefully someone here will take it on and we can keep tabs on it then!

Elite is top of the range, Bose stereo, heated leather electric seats, electric rear blind, more electric stuff, and more other stuff. I seem to remember you had a knob to control direction of rear view mirror. etc

That's similar to what it looks like, but in grey. I know it's very well specced though, as I was chatting to the owner about cars for most of the time I was there. He seemed to really be fond of the Omega!

 

Someone said on the other thread that after 98 they had even more toys in them!

If I didn't already have the XM I'd be all over that. These are seriously good cars, the BMW donk is a good one, before the current breed of awful crap diesels they make AND it's an estate....

These are lovely place to be in. If the electrics hadn't been so shit on the V6 we would probably still be running it, I think diesels came with the stronger auto box that doesn't self destruct at 125k

I deliberately didn't post a price. I figured if anyone's interested enough they'd message me for the finer details. I can assure though that it's an affordable price!

What the hell. It's probably too late now but stick me down behind CMS and DW if it doesn't work for them for any reason. Always fancied one of these when they first came out...

Not that it matters but the diesel Omegas used the AR25 gearbox, the naming represents nm (250nm) autos are GM and manuals are ZF. I was going to use an Omega gearbox on my kit car (bolted to C20LET).

Anywaysh, gr8 cars and a rarity, not seen one for ages.

Ive had two Omega estates in the same colour.

A 2.5 GLS auto i bought ar 3 years old and kept for about 8 years.

 

Replaced it with T reg 3.0 Elite. The Elite had everything. Xenon headlights, front AND rear heated seats.

The one thing that amused me was the memory seats- you set the seat and positioned the rear view mirror and pressed set. When you then pressed the button after the wife had been in even the rear view mirror would move. Must have had motors inside.

 

Funny thing was the wife bashed in the front passenger wing on both cars hitting the same bollard in Asdas.

 

You can boost the engine- but the AR 25 will go bang.

 

A good friendly bunch are on the omega owners forum.

 

Superb, very, very underated cars!!

Really wouldn't have minded this, typical that it's come up now I've got a car.

Oh well, it would have been a black box job and quite a bit more in insurance to boot.

It's a shame I couldn't get up to it sooner really.

 

Still, with a bit of luck I'm sure it'll go to someone on here and that might mean you may still get a chance for it when/if it comes available again!

Yep, you were bang on too. It's a Musketeer.

It's going to the same guy who's taking the Wolsely. The van is in bloody good nik too despite sitting for so long.

The Wolsely had been sat in the garage until recently and that is very very solid too. There's very little rust on it.
