The £250 Zafira B - Fin. Bean can time!

None near me though. I've put a bid on those vectra alloys, partly so I don't forget as I'm out drinking tomorrow night!

Posted

Hopefully no one else will outbid you. There was only one bid when I checked just now

Posted

Yep, mine! I've gone to £150 too, mainly because I'm quite drunk, so my phone will go nuts if the worst happens! Just got to wake up in time to drive 30 miles home and collect them!

So after giving up on the night at 12.30,staggering back to my mates house, being sick and sleeping in the gooner (i cant do nights out anymore) I went to pick up the wheels

Their ruddy mint! 4 excellent tyres (2 2013 wulfruns and 2 2016 evergreens)

post-5612-0-86471700-1491043495_thumb.jpg

Bolted straight up as well! Got to work out the pressures though, reckon vectra pressures will be ok?

Wonder where the alloy is cracked then... Bloody hell fair play

post-5612-0-69850400-1491043763_thumb.jpg

And when I took the rears off the tread blocks had deep cracks in them

post-5612-0-35041500-1491043826_thumb.jpg

And wtf do I do with these?

post-5612-0-07672800-1491043852_thumb.jpg

Id be happy with my £130 back, but ive never posted wheels before and their Fooking heavy. Local facebook/ebay collection only?

Either way, I'm off for a shower and a kip

Definitely eBay them someone will have them. If they are prone to cracking/buckling etc people may be happy to buy one or two. Get some of your money back

Just been down the garage, found the pressures in the handbook for the close enough tyre size, 24 and 30psi,now uo to 36 all round. The ride is also surprisingly smoother too! They look so much smarter, cant wait to give them a proper clean!

I also burnt some chav dick head off who was in a 1.2 clio! The thing shifts when you Rev it, traction control spoilt the fun a bit though. Mr chav backed off at 65, he obviously thought the corner was sharper than it is! The wulfruns on the front grip nicely.

Overall, a good day in Zafira land!

Even better if it's mostly for family use. I suppose the penta are more of sport type of wheel to optimise the handling when in sport mode. Think your current ones look better but that might be because I'm old.

That'll be because you ditched the low profile tyres for ones with a decent sidewall cushion.

I prefer the look of the Pentas, love those wheels, but I can totally see why you've binned them off.

Posted

If the pentas weren't utterly fucked I'd agree, but they looked so shabby this is an improvement!

How do people usually post wheels? Was tempted to keep one of the pentas for a spare, but I might go back to asm and see how much it'll cost for a spare wheel cage kit and steel wheel... Might also ask how much they'll give me for all the wheels. Fuck it, if its £100 I'll be happy

i seem to remember paisley freight are top of alot of peeps list for wheels

Only time I've bought a wheel online it turned up by courier & wrapped in plastic.

Posted

I sold a wheel through the Vauxhall Facebook page, and they arranged a courier from Hermes to pick them up. They email an address barcode label which you bung on the parcel. I was only posting one and as it didn't have a tyre I just packed it with cardboard. You probably just need to wrap it in bin bags/plastic. Are you selling just the good ones?

Posted

Yea I'll try and sell the 3 good ones. The cracked alloy has a new tyre on it but that's probably a bit beyond me to remove

Posted

A garage or tyre centre should do it for you if it's worth hanging on to the tyre. Maybe ask if they will do it for a few quid.? I tried cutting off an old tyre off a wheel I wanted to weigh in. I had one of them mini Bosch saws I thought peace of piss 5 minute job but it wasn't I got to the bit near the rim and it took bloody ages. And I got into trouble with the missus because all you see and smell was burning rubber.

Hopefully some random bloke called Abdul is going to give me £90 and send a courier for this pile of shite

If not (and I'm staying optimistic) then I've had about 5 messages about them so should get them gone easily* enough

So, since we are in the detailing mood*, I cleaned the Zafira and a BONUS other car on Friday! Amy buggared off out as it was friday, and she always buggars off out on a friday or summat, so I got cracking nice and early! Gareth (the bloke who bought the mazda5 I asked for advice on and my boss) was bored too, so he came over as well!

I did clean this when we first got it, along with the Xantia, but it was looking dirty again

Whilst I waited for him, I got started under the bonnet. It's very VERY dusty under here, and it's always pissed me off

So I rinsed it down with the pressure washer held a fair bit away

post-5612-0-98178300-1492468518_thumb.jpg

Then G101'd the shit out of it with various brushes

post-5612-0-75034100-1492468573_thumb.jpg

Then rinsed it off

post-5612-0-55323900-1492468604_thumb.jpg

I turned the thing on just to check I hadn't fucked it, and all was well, so on with the door shuts! Gareth turned up part way through this and made me a fag

Scrub Scrub etc

post-5612-0-42444100-1492468696_thumb.jpg

Onto the wheels now, which were still very clean since ASM probably dipped them in brick acid before fitting the tyres

post-5612-0-38927200-1492468751_thumb.jpg

On with the Bilberry, which got 100% of everything clean

post-5612-0-31617800-1492468779_thumb.jpg

At this point I got distracted, and sprayed a non rinsed wheel of the gooner with Korrosol

post-5612-0-48382300-1492468809_thumb.jpg

And sprayed up the Zafira's wheels

post-5612-0-61632200-1492468842_thumb.jpg

Which didn't do much. Gooner on the other hand

post-5612-0-20584800-1492468863_thumb.jpg

I agitated the wheels

post-5612-0-10130500-1492468894_thumb.jpg

and just rinsed the Gooner wheel off, and was very impressed

post-5612-0-20019300-1492468917_thumb.jpg

Wheels done, Gareth took a photo of me foaming it up!

post-5612-0-71495800-1492468974_thumb.jpg

We did the tightwork whilst it was foamed, which was actually bloody tricky as the foam was slippery and I kept dropping the brush, then rinsed it down

post-5612-0-58629400-1492469010_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-89540700-1492469023_thumb.jpg

Then 2 buckets were filled and we took a wash mitt each and got washing

post-5612-0-38461900-1492469053_thumb.jpg

Then Gareth rinsed her down

post-5612-0-70102300-1492469068_thumb.jpg

We then spent half an hour with tardis and a microfibre de-tarring the fucker! Those large wheels don't half kick some shit up, we still missed some as I found when polishing it

post-5612-0-94682100-1492469135_thumb.jpg

Then we clayed

post-5612-0-34972200-1492469160_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-25525200-1492469177_thumb.jpg

Then another wash and a final rinse

post-5612-0-25233200-1492469196_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-18528100-1492469208_thumb.jpg

At this point, we swapped cars! The Mazda really needed a wash, and since all the gear was out, I parked the Zafira out of the way to dry, and the Mazda enters the stage!

post-5612-0-89194800-1492469249_thumb.jpg

I don't think the wheels have been cleaned since 2007...

post-5612-0-58133200-1492469335_thumb.jpg

I let Gareth take over now, so he rinsed, and I followed him round with the G101 and brushes getting all the mould off

post-5612-0-18949300-1492469367_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-45867000-1492469385_thumb.jpg

Gareth then had a go with the Bilberry on a front wheel, and declared it fucking shit

post-5612-0-80465800-1492469417_thumb.jpg

Which tbh it was, nowhere near man enough for this so we lobbed some Korrosol on

post-5612-0-40518900-1492469446_thumb.jpg

Which also tried but didn't really touch it. So, I armed myself with Korrosol, Autowheel, IronX and 2 green kitchen pan scourers, and for the next hour, whilst Gareth foamed, rinsed, washed, rinsed, dried the car, rolled some fags and got some beer from the fridge, I had this...

post-5612-0-71362300-1492469517_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-65628400-1492469531_thumb.jpg

And Gareth did this (no polishing or owt)

post-5612-0-08614800-1492469555_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-90541200-1492469569_thumb.jpg

Looks more like £2.5 large ones worth of car now! We then went for a spin and it dont half shift! Doesnt feel big inside either, and the large wing mirrors got mocked by me at first until I had to use them and actually, their bloody good. Gareth made me go to the shops and he bought me some baccy to say thanks, then he drove it back and fucking hooned it! The brakes have no bite at the top of the pedal and there's an alarming wheel shake under hard braking, but he said he's got used to that now!

And back to the Zafira, and we chose Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine as the polish, and put it on far too thickly as it was a right cunt to get off

post-5612-0-61621200-1492469692_thumb.jpg

I polished the glass inside and out with Gtechniq G4, which although is excellent was also a cunt to get off (hence why I didn't use it on the Gooner). Looked bloody good afterwards though, and I managed to peel off and bin the Thame Service Station sticker that adorns pretty much every bloody car around here...

post-5612-0-78436300-1492469760_thumb.jpg

Looked good once buffed off though

post-5612-0-51873700-1492469786_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-93553700-1492469804_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-91841300-1492469816_thumb.jpg

Then I got out the Black Hole

post-5612-0-06543500-1492469838_thumb.jpg

and rubbed that well in to hide the fucking awful paintwork, the front looks like it's been rallying

post-5612-0-61747500-1492469888_thumb.jpg

It pepped the shine up a bit though

post-5612-0-15431000-1492469903_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-97617200-1492469931_thumb.jpg

Time was getting on by now. Gareth had gone home to get his daughter, Amy was back and it was starting to get dark, and I didn't want to hit the dew point, so I waxed the roof first, and buffed it off

post-5612-0-45623600-1492469986_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-49172200-1492470000_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-31744500-1492470020_thumb.jpg

Then, after dinner got the passenger side waxed up

post-5612-0-18440500-1492470048_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-06422600-1492470064_thumb.jpg

post-5612-0-57317900-1492470080_thumb.jpg

And that's it! Dressed the tyres, but the rest of the car sits under just black hole, which isn't too bad as it's a glaze after all so will offer some protection, more than the cars ever had in it's life! Doesn't look too bad either, and comparing the beading last night, there's actually sod all difference between the wax or BH, so either Hard Candy is actually a bit shite for beading or BH is bloody good for beading! I'll leave you with these afters

And bid you good night! I have also written this up on Detailing World, and it's become a 5 star thread already! Apparently peopel are fid up of all the pro detailers just doing pre-delivery normal cars which already look 99% spot on (but if that's what brings them the money, then meh, can't argue...)

Cheers for thread, that looks like a different car to when you first got it.

Posted

It's come up alright hasn't it! Well worth £250! Still got to look at the brakes and oil leak, but it brakes better than the gooner and the leak is so tiny it's being out off for now...

Posted

Nice bit of polishing work! I've got some black hole glaze on my shopping list once I run out of my current Meg's I've had for far too long!

Posted

Definitely worth £250. I prefer the new wheels on it too. The other ones sold and gone yet?

Posted

Yes, sold, gone and the money's in a different account now! £90 they went for, so the new wheels cost a tenner each

What a result that Zafira is for the money.

I used to be a super buffty sort before work and family meant that I have other things to do.

That was 10 years ago and I never even heard of snow foam.

How things move on.

I'm an tempted to find me some of this G101 having read this thread.

That's a great result for you. Nice one!

Have been reading up on g101 it says dilute it down but there are variations in what people do. What did you do ?

A 10parts water to 1 of g101?

Absolutely. I use to check the showroom sub-forum for threads like yours but hardly ever look any more. Sometimes I check it and if there isn't an okcharlie thread on the first page I'll close the tab.
