New Renault Megane vs Renault 16

Just spotted a photo of the new Megane. Is it just me, or does it have a little 16 DNA attached to the front end?

And no, I'm not pissed.

The bonnet has some of the DNA methinks...

Well I always thought the Vel Satis had something of it's Grandfather, the Renault 20, about it - but if you asked me to point out individual features which matched I couldn't! Coincidence, imagination, or rooted in fact? No idea tbh!

Hahaha! I was subtly taking the piss with my post in case you missed it! :)

That's it. How do you delete your profile on here? I'm fed up of people taking the piss. All I did was asked a simple question.

I was awaiting the ribbing to be fair. Yeah, I guess the bonnet is the main similarity - the headlights are twin square shape as well, but it could just be a modern copy of other manufacturers, rather than a nod to old design details.

On a tangent, I found this beauty on my quest for photos. What a honey.

It's pretty hideous though isn't it, and could be anything without a diamond on the front.  Are Renault going to bother selling it here?  I can think of better ways of blowing £10 grand overnight.

I sort of see what you're getting at, around the nose.  The facelift non-TX 16 with the black grille and single lamps more than that TX though.  Sport Tourer version maybe more so, with the roof rails and rear quarter windows.

But I suspect it's pure coincidence as Renault has a tendency toward not giving a fucque en volant about its recent-ish heritage.

In a similar manner to me sharing genes with Dolph Lundgren.

I've seen a few on the roads and quite like it.

Fun fact, it's the Megane IV. I bet you don't even remember the Megane III! (Incidentally hugely more reliable than the II too)

More like £15,000

I was just referring to the depreciation when you drive it out of the showroom, not the purchase price.

I am a cunical old cynt, but I am mighty sure part of modern car design brief is to introduce the merest flourish of line which, almost subconsciously reminds potential buyers of something bygone and creates a glow of recognition.   Or something.    It is a thing I have noticed when stuck up the arse of something modern on the way home from work or pondering the futility of modern life in a supermarket car park.

I first noticed it when seeing those trianglia (sic) indicators on the front corner of a Mk1 Ka.

Look forward to seeing Rostyles on an MG6.....
