Any Opcom experts here please?

I am trying to install opcom.  This is doing my head in.

It is on a Windows 8 computer.  I have it in test mode.  I am running it off a disc.  I have installed a driver which seems ok.  Now the software comes up, but when I go into Diagnostics, I get a message saying 'The list of supported ECU's cannot be loaded'.

Any suggestions please?  I've tried searching the internet but learnt only that I am not the only one who is struggling.

Thanks

I had big trouble trying to get it to work on windows 7 and vista, ended up getting an old xp laptop and it works fine, I think you can have some sort of virtual xp somehow....other than that I can't help sorry

OK I downloaded another version of the software from a totally unknown site and it seems to work.  Time to do a virus scan...............

Never use this kind of knock off software on your "main" computer - buy a cheap old laptop and keep it dedicated for diagnostics, keep it off the internet too.

How urgently do you need it?I can pop over one evening with a junk laptop running XP with IE6 which I used when you lent it to me a few months back for the Saab - it categorically ran on that so happy to help.

I'm away this weekend but could feasibly do one evening next week? PM me

Thanks Skanky but I managed to get it working.  I had a P0700 code in my wife's Zafira, which traced to something ghastly about torque in the transmission.  So I wiped them but have just a feeling that that might come up again!

I had to put the Windows 8 laptop into test mode.  It won't auto detect, have to select the car, not that that is any great problem.

I haven't permanently installed the software out of respect for Kiltox's message.  We do have an old laptop, somewhere...........

If you need to use it on a machine used for other stuff then run it in a virtual machine using VirtualBox and keep the antivirus on the host OS very up to date and eager to scan.

The light came on again so I have scanned and reset.  There were a wide range of fault codes, P1895, P1700, P0700 and at least one other.

It is driving ok so I am thinking that this is something like a poor earth connection.  The only earths I can see are direct to the battery terminal so I have tightened all of them.  The terminal itself was quite loose.

Here's hoping.

15 miles later and the light hasn't come on.  Not a lot, but about 14.5 miles more than before.  From tightening a battery terminal?  Who knows, but I am not holding my breath.
