hexdrive is a lie!

sadly the hex part is not directly connected to the shaft (fnar fnar  )

i have a set and , apart from the disappointment level achieved when trying to use a spanner to add lots of torque,

they are pretty good value.

even with very rough treatment i haven't managed to break the more important parts (yet :-D)

halfords set now £5.95!

Yeah, when I reserved mine there was some OMGBLACKHYPEBOLLOCKSNONSENSE discount applied, and I got them for £5.95.

Just picked them up and they don't look bad at all - far better than 75p each would suggest.

Good spot Bren, thanks again.

I managed to remove the most challenging of Philips headed fastener, the bolts retaining a door striker.

Plus some chowwed up wood screws (these weren't on me car). All hail the mighty hex drive! :D

i wouldn't worry too much Mally - they are not bad screwdrivers for the money, and as i said i am overall quite pleased with my set.

obs i am more manly than overrun to have spun me hex end caps  :-D

:-) I had a fair old bit of torque on them, mind.

Must try harder!

I've 2 sets of the Halfords screwdrivers, one for home and one for the boat. They're tough and hardwearing, even in a damp and salty environment (fnarr fnarr)

I've a set of these in the house, had a few years now and still going strong

Some purchased for £5.95. Whilst in there bought some flex head ratchet spanners for £40

i got given a set of the halfords flex head spanners as a leaving present at my previous job. they are possibly the most used thing in my tool kit.

Despite my screwdriver disdain, I am a big fan and user of Halfords Pro/Adv tools, and the flex head ratchet spanners are one of the first things I ever had.

I used to think they were great.

Until I acquired a 10mm from a different brand that can be locked into position.

It made me realise the Halfords ones are unsuitable for certain jobs (turbo removal from manifold) as they keep flopping about.

I always wanted ratchet spanners right up until I got some. They aren't anywhere near as useful as I thought they would be.

I was going to buy this set of screwdrvers. Luckily I didn't-I have started to "sort" out my tools and have already "found" at least 30-40 scredrivers and a similar amount of pliers.

I predict all secret santa presents are these.

I went on Thursday to buy these screw drivers.  They were sold out.

Did you ask? I thought I'd got the last set in the branch I went to but they had them on several different displays.

Only just seen this and have a set ordered for pick up tomorrow. Surprised they still had some left.

I hardly touch the 2 Halfords sets I bought (fixed and swivelly), but the few in the lid of the frequently discounted 150 piece socket set get used a lot. I think they're on of those tools that needs to be handy or you don't think of using them.

Top tip for ratchet spanners: keep a bootlace in your toolkit so you can tie them to your wrist when spannering in awkward spots. Then you can ratchet with abandon and not be constantly fishing for the damn thing with magnets on sticks when it slips off the nut.

Got no problems here with Halfords Pro/Advanced stuff, it's probably 75% as good as some of the Snap-On stuff I have for around 10-20% of the price. Takes some serious abuse too, and a lifetime warranty ain't to be sniffed at.
