Repairing unobtainable BMW broken plastic fittings

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I took the headlining out of the Bmw cabriolet as it was looking a a bit grubby and one of the plastic dog ears and strings had broken so I set about it with a soldering iron and managed to melt the part back together.

The problem is the plastic now looks like someone has giving it some pigeon shite welding treatment so I want to rub it down and get it flat again but then the part will lose some of its strength along the break and I wondered if maybe a bit of glue would be the answer and if so anyone had experience in doing a permanent repair on such plastics and what I should use.

What model of BMW is it?

It's a 97 E36 cabriolet but there's no part number on it.

I think you have to buy the part as a complete kit with something else roof related and it works out quite expensive
