Junkman Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 We probably won't be able to establish each car he ever owned in his life or owns currently, fact is that he is a hardcore Simca/Talbot collector plus a super enjoyable person to be around. There aren't many and I have to say that I'm not only a little proud to be one of them now.A Talbot owner that is, because a super enjoyable person to be around I will certainly never manage to be. Strangely, I'm more and more attracted to orphan makes and especially Simca/Talbot is one many people nowadays can't even remember.Enter a lady who passed my drive today while I was rectifying the fuelling issue. She said she really admires my Rovers and that she drove those a lot when they were used as staff carswhile she was serving in the army. She very much liked the Talbot, but admitted she had never even heard of the brand, or if she did, must have forgotten about it. I have wanted a Simca for some time now and even I would have never guessed the first one will appear in form of a Solara, but it was just to good a deal to pass on.Trust me, the car will be very cherished and pampered during my ownership. So, next stop Studebaker? oldcars, eddyramrod, chaseracer and 4 others 7

Junkman Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 that is truly stunning. Well played sir. Shocked at the manual box though. Low spec with power steering, was it an option? Power steering apparently was standard. That aside, it's pov spec enough to not even have interior light switches for the rear doors. It also has no intermittent wipers and no tinted glass, although the windscreen is laminated. And yes, it is a manual, in clear breach of the first and second law of The Junkman©.Which means, I have to do the shifting business myself and there are a lot more pedals than I have feet.Believe it or not, it violates quite a few other The Junkman© laws, like having only half of the required cylinder count,an engine displacement one should ideally have in each one of one's eight cylinders and girl wheel drive. But all this doesn't really count, because have you actually had a look at the pics?Well, I had and I have feelings too, you know. That's why it is on my drive now after the collection caper from hellthat leaves me at considerable unease for what it did to Mr Conelrad. Should anyone be interested, these are the pics that triggered this outburst of sanity: When I saw these, I couldn't believe that nobody had posted it in the eBay thread yet.I actually wanted to, but first whacked in an offer and it was accepted. smellypoo Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 No. That's auto reverse. That's a step further on, where at the end, it winds back to the beginning. Auto-reverse is just that - it'll play the reverse side of the tape (e.g. side B once you've done side A). Usually does this by playing the tape 'backwards', the tape playing head might have mechanically swivelled around or it would have been designed to read the tape playing in the other direction.
smellypoo Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I rather like that Solara. An older cousin had one as a first car, in the same gold hue as the one Vulgalour posted up earlier - was a nice car back in the '80's. He replaced it with a silver Rover 213SE which I absolutely adored. The tape deck in the Solara is lovely - very much of the period. Dad had one that looked remarkably similar, although I imagine it was a 'cheaper' clone - a chocolate brown unit branded 'Flensburg' IIRC. The tuning/volume knobs with the chamfered bit were just like those on the Philips in the Solara. Junkman 1
