We probably won't be able to establish each car he ever owned in his life or owns currently, fact is that he is a hardcore Simca/Talbot collector plus a super enjoyable person to be around.

There aren't many and I have to say that I'm not only a little proud to be one of them now.

A Talbot owner that is, because a super enjoyable person to be around I will certainly never manage to be.

Strangely, I'm more and more attracted to orphan makes and especially Simca/Talbot is one many people nowadays can't even remember.

Enter a lady who passed my drive today while I was rectifying the fuelling issue. She said she really admires my Rovers and that she drove those a lot when they were used as staff cars

while she was serving in the army. She very much liked the Talbot, but admitted she had never even heard of the brand, or if she did, must have forgotten about it.

I have wanted a Simca for some time now and even I would have never guessed the first one will appear in form of a Solara, but it was just to good a deal to pass on.

Trust me, the car will be very cherished and pampered during my ownership.

So, next stop Studebaker?

that is truly stunning. Well played sir. Shocked at the manual box though. Low spec with power steering, was it an option?

Power steering apparently was standard.

That aside, it's pov spec enough to not even have interior light switches for the rear doors.

It also has no intermittent wipers and no tinted glass, although the windscreen is laminated.

And yes, it is a manual, in clear breach of the first and second law of The Junkman©.

Which means, I have to do the shifting business myself and there are a lot more pedals than I have feet.

Believe it or not, it violates quite a few other The Junkman© laws, like having only half of the required cylinder count,

an engine displacement one should ideally have in each one of one's eight cylinders and girl wheel drive.

But all this doesn't really count, because have you actually had a look at the pics?

Well, I had and I have feelings too, you know. That's why it is on my drive now after the collection caper from hell

that leaves me at considerable unease for what it did to Mr Conelrad.

Should anyone be interested, these are the pics that triggered this outburst of sanity:

When I saw these, I couldn't believe that nobody had posted it in the eBay thread yet.

I actually wanted to, but first whacked in an offer and it was accepted.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Recall notice: interior light too bright

Note the little girl making a brief appearance at 0:16. Why?

Also, they got their fuel consumption figures wrong.

Out of tune, with some unidentified pink matter clogging up the idle jets, so you have to run it on choke most of the time, then ticking over for an hour or so while waiting for the recovery lorry to rescue a broken down Plah, it returns 31 OMGMPG, right?

I shall consult the manuals and brochures I got with the car in due time and let you know these terminally important* facts.

That is truly fucking majestic

You are forgiven for non purchase of the XM

Just.

Honestly, the next time I'm visiting you guys up there, which is hopefully soon, I'll see a catholic preacherman and do an admission no matter what the penance shall be.

In the interim, I'm eternally grateful for your absolution, it means a lot to me.

It's such a relief that I ever so narrowly got away with a black eye. It could have been an a lot closer shave.

iirc autostop stops the motor when the tape reaches the end thus not resulting in stretchage

How high tech is that?

So I don't have to keep a pencil in the car?

Holy Totes Amazeballs, one of those 2 tone Horizons looks like it could be a Silver Fox

Sadly it's not a Silver Fox, unless one pops out of the woodwork it's pretty much a certain that none of that two toned Talbot special edition survive.

It is infact a late 1984 Gl based Pullman edition featuring Two tone paint, plush velour seats and a wooden faced dash and gear knob. It was also available in a Gold and Sable colour scheme too!

No. That's auto reverse. That's a step further on, where at the end, it winds back to the beginning.

We just met the most wonderful man. He has a unit which is a wonderland of lovely cars.

He gave me the keys to one of them.

Auto-reverse is just that - it'll play the reverse side of the tape (e.g. side B once you've done side A). Usually does this by playing the tape 'backwards', the tape playing head might have mechanically swivelled around or it would have been designed to read the tape playing in the other direction.

I rather like that Solara. An older cousin had one as a first car, in the same gold hue as the one Vulgalour posted up earlier - was a nice car back in the '80's. He replaced it with a silver Rover 213SE which I absolutely adored.

The tape deck in the Solara is lovely - very much of the period. Dad had one that looked remarkably similar, although I imagine it was a 'cheaper' clone - a chocolate brown unit branded 'Flensburg' IIRC. The tuning/volume knobs with the chamfered bit were just like those on the Philips in the Solara.

While on the subject of Talbot adverts, this is one of my favourite adverts of the 80s

That looks ace Junkman, the colour change lower tone is exceptional. I think there are a couple of other Talbot's on here, does theorganist still have the cute beige Horizon and richieg have his Alpine?

Anyway, I just returned from running a few errands.

The car couldn't possible run any better and be a better daily driver.

Also, the heater gets toasty warm, but it stinks like burning hair.

I guess it hadn't been used for years.

Either that, or your hair is on fire through sheer excitement.

Last week I joked that the Allegro's brake judder was so bad, it needed a Richter scale gauge. So imagine how delighted I was to see this in the Solara's cubby hole:
