Looks like much fun was had!

Looks like fun. Intrigued by the Spitfire - is it a two litre GT6 lump then?

No! It has already been subjected to upgradings! A 2.5 StanParts engine is resident, promising much wheelspinning fun once it has coolant and a clean tank...

We wondered what they were from.

That does look fun, hopefully you'll do another day in the future that I will be able to make.

I've spent a bit of today looking up heater controls for visas. As yet no luck in finding out anything useful. But I will keep searching!

The hand book says, top slider cold air control. bottom slider hot air control.

I'd like to see video of this beastie running - any available?! Love the sound of a Triumph straight six, and the 2.5 in a Spit shell is going to be a right giggle.

Great pics, looks like a grand weekend. I would've liked to have been there but I think I have a reasonable excuse. The field looks odd in green, I can only picture it in brown.

Is Lady 6C trying to get the Daimler going with a Scalextric controller?

The cars engine temp gauge reads high and that is a lazer temp gauge. We are not sure if the car's gauge is faulty or the car has an over heating problem. There do not seem to be any running issues and no water loss so an external check seemed a good idea. Trouble is it only showed a low 76 deg C on the side of the thermostat so I tried it on the side of the boiling kettle and that also reads about 76 deg C.

All this has not helped because is the lazer temp gun faulty/not being used correctly or does the car run hot?

Kettles don't reach 100 degrees celsius, the bubbling you hear before they click off is just simmering - it takes a lot more time and energy to actually get the water to boiling point, and it's just not required for making tea.

*I have satisfied myself that this is true - a working thermostat does not open in a boiling kettle. It needs to be in a pan of water for a lot longer to get up to 90degrees or whatever it opens at

I have tried the pan test, the highest it would read is 80deg C.

Oh dear, that's disappointing for a lovely gadget!

Repurpose it as a Scalextric controller?

Cut a couple of grooves around the field and make a life-size Scalextric?

Laser thermometers measure infrared radiation and are sensitive to surface emissivity.  Most dull, non-reflective surfaces will have an emissivity of over 0.9 and most laser thermometers are 'calibrated' using this assumption.  A reflective surface e.g. a shiny pan or kettle or shiny brass thermostat will have lower emissivity and will thus give you a less accurate reading.  If your laser device has an adjustable emissivity setting, it can of course be calibrated against boiling water (with a contact thermometer in the water) by fiddling with the emissivity knob until it reads the same as the one in the water.

We used infrared cameras at work to measure the temperature of rocket engine combustion chambers - the measurement principles are similar to your device, hence my slight familiarity with the subject.......but I've been retired since 2008, so any resulting questions may require the opening of books.  Car engines are much more interesting than rockets.

My laser does not seem to have any calibration adjustment. Silverline 633726.

According to the on-line manual, yours is set to 0.95 emissivity.  There is a note about reflective surfaces.  It suggests putting masking tape or matt paint on shiny bits for improved measurement accuracy.  Handy tool though, good for comparative measurements.

I tried inside the Teflon pan just above the waterline, outside on the waterline, the water itself and the water off the heat so it was calm but all about the same result.
