brownnova Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 As I had said (but the forum ftp'd and lost the post) I was reading about these in Retro Japanese, thinking I quite fancied one, I looked on eBay saw one and quite liked the look of it, then this thread appears! So much Xedos in my attention! Maybe there's a cross-e-doss in my shite future... I hope so!
barrett Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 I'm gonna go so far as to say these must be one of the very few styling highpoints of the grim '90s. I can't think of many other family cars that were as cleanly handsome, and when you look at the shite guys like Rover were doing at the same time it's even more impressive. 'Kaysedos' can fuck off, though dugong 1
Pillock Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 It strikes me very much as the Japanese interpretation of what a good old fashioned British executive car should be like. Which is odd as it was primarily a home market car, but then again this is the nation that will glue a Jag grille and some round lamps onto a Micra. It works though, you could well imagine that being a rejected Jaguar design.
Sheefag Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 One to keep it company, 89,000 miles with A/C for just £295 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-XEDOS-6-2-0-V6-MANUAL-FULL-LEATHER-MOT-MARCH-17-AIR-CON-RARE-CAR-/142093440043?hash=item21156dd42b:g:b04AAOSw65FXucro egg, BorniteIdentity and Lacquer Peel 3
Sheefag Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 ....and one here to keep it going. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-Xedos-6-2-0i-M5-Sport-breaking-for-spares-only-/331901820750?hash=item4d46e3df4e:g:BT8AAOSwwo1XfOeQ
dugong Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 Fuel tests are in...the results are unimpressive. Had a great time woofling up and down the Norfolk coast in it listening to Simon & Garfunkel; parsimony was never a Xedos strong suit, anyway. The leaking rocker cover probably isn't helping matters.
dugong Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 Have an appalling phone snap of the engine - including the standard fit strut brace. Used all 7200RPM on the A15 to get up to NSL. Result: it'll do 65 in second just edging into the warpaint. TOP THROBBING. I predict the rear rocker cover access being gloriously amazing. I might stick my Mazdaspeed oil cap on at some point for INCREDIBLE SCENE WHORE DEFERENCE. The grot is also going to need tackling sooner or later, some of it so hardcore I'm not even going to show it here lest the faint of heart find it too distressing. URGH. The bonnet is proper gopping and will need replacing sooner rather than later. Bear in mind the rest of the car is pretty sound bar the blebby offside rear arch. Got a robust bollocking from CAMBS PLOD this evening too; had the TUNEZ on a bit too loud while razzing along a B road I know. "Slow it down please sir, my colleague had to speed up quite a bit to catch you. This is Cambridgeshire, not Cadwell Park." Pillock, Lord Sterling, BorniteIdentity and 6 others 9
r.welfare Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Have the asymmetric door mirrors been mentioned yet?

This is the car Jaguar should have launched, not that awful X-Type thing. Pillock and dugong 2
dugong Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 Have the asymmetric door mirrors been mentioned yet? I noticed 'em, yes. I gave my (baffled) colleague a lift to pick up a car he'd bought a couple of days ago. "It's got asymmetric door mirrors like your 190E!" I exclaimed. He gave me a withering look, a mixture of pity and despair. He doesn't accept lifts off me any more. It works though, you could well imagine that being a rejected Jaguar design. Goes well with my 'rejected Scirocco design' coupe [runs]. Dave_Q 1
dugong Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Fuel calculations: on a full tank it does about 31 mpg. Undecided if this is good or not. This is the car Jaguar should have launched, not that awful X-Type thing. Weirdly enough, we've just got a 2.5-litre X Type S as a pool car at work. Twin test, anyone?
Lacquer Peel Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 31MPG isn't bad, it's about the same as a Honda F20 in a 600 or Accord.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Its decent for a small V6, I got about the same from the 45V6. dugong 1
dugong Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Its decent for a small V6, I got about the same from the 45V6. I haven't quite worked my way out of the diesel wanker mindset. I should be more grateful. I can get 29-31 mpg out of the Piazza if I run it on 98. It's utterly shite on 95. I managed something loopy like 41 mpg from the MGF once. Can't wait* to get the 605 V6 back on the road where a heady 18mpg shitbag horror will be my reward.
