That's not an Allegro, that's a Vanden Plas :)

Amazing that someone actually 'designed' that front end - with its unique bonnet pressing, etc. - and thought it good.

And yes, I would happily buy and run one!

My grandad had one new in 1975, trading the M-reg (very late!) Austin 1300 he'd brought with him when he moved down from north Wales.

It was swiped by a truck's wheel at six months old and was never quite the same after that, losing three windscreens in the next year.  He replaced it with a Simca 1100, which even he admitted was not a good choice...

Well..... It's in a garage front yard, surrounded by cars that haven't moved for a long time, it's stinking dirty, and looks like it hasn't moved in years. Not going anywhere in a hurry! Sorry about poor pics, it was the middle of the night!

not only that, but BL made an ACTUAL profit on each one they sold.

take a little car and make it very up market, a trick that BL/ARG etc would use again with the SD3 and R8, with the same result.

Ah, righto, with it being in with a load of other cars it looks like it's at least "owned" as it were, and therefore someone to approach could be had :-D

My Grandad had one in 1976, when he retired, trading in a 3 litre wolsley crab for a pile of shite, because in the previous year the wolsey, had needed a new steering rack.

I remember that as a 13 year old in about 1980, I could not sit upright in the rear seat despite me never quite hitting 6 foot.

3 Litre Wolseley crab ? Hope your childhood memories are incorrect, or was it the drugs ?
