The Mk1s are the only ones to have. I think the bumpers fared a bit better than the Mk2s.

Sweet looking Mondeo. I seriously WOULD but I've far too many cars at the moment.

I wonder how much he wants for it?

Has it no Mot then after it failed in Jan?

It's not clear as the formatting got messed up in the post above, but it passed the MOT on 27/1/16 after previously failing on 22/1/16

after a couple of months of mondy ownership (yeah I'm a bloody expert now, right  ;-) ) my top checks would be:

- airbag light goes off

- when were lower suspension arms last done (if ever)

- does the alarm/central locking work

- have the power steering pipes rusted out (on the subframe)

- has the heater resistor overheated (burning smell or blower motor only works a certain speeds)

- are the weatherstrips on the windows in good nick (£80-£90 for a set from Ford)

At the money he's likely wanting I'd suggest the big check would be 'is this going to last till next Jan without a massive FTP in the form of a clutch going or whatever'. The welding for the test would likely at that age be plates welded over the top of the corrosion. Which is fine for the purposes of an MOT. Unless it's something insanely rare, I'd not be wasting £80 on door strips for it, run her till she blows!!!

Ring them up see what they want for it, at a guess with 10 months test probably £3-400.

all theoretical now, but you're right - that is the only pragmatic approach - I've just become a bit of a Mondeo licker since I got mine!
