A mate of mine took the piss out of my beige 340, but the tables were turned once I found out he drove a brown Maestro. But we both lusted after another mate's Mk2 Cavalier 1.3 GL.

This was either two lads having a conversation in the sixth form common room circa 1997...

or...

A conversation on Autoshiteâ„¢ circa 2016.

Both apply.

Close, the year was right but University JCR was the location.

Bringing it back on topic, no one had a Sierra because they were too expensive to insure as all the 1.3s had disappeared.

Ah. When insurance was based on cubic capacity alone.

Halcyon days.

And it's gone.

Clearly the bloke is going to flip it for a profit, and good luck to him. I can't believe I got my price, but there's clearly more to be had if he can finish it nicely.

This will be the first car I regret selling ever... pretty sure of that. I just hope its replacement is as good as I hope. I have a bit of a knot in my stomach I can tell you!

It's been emotional.

Ps. Had to phone the car park operator and explain it's leaving on a truck so I don't get a fine! 😂

I've never seen Sainsburys to that before. I must admit now it's been sold theres a part of me who wishes I'd bought it to sell on!

He was a bit sheepish to start with... but there's only so coy you can be as you fill out the yellow part of the V5 (!)

He thinks he's done well. I have done well. Nice bloke to boot so it's a good day's work.

The seller of the replacement is very pleasant on the phone but there's some dubious feedback on eBay in the past relating to cars so I've got to dose up on brave pills or just bottle it now. He seems lovely...just looks like he's suffered a few idiots.

We'll find out tomorrow!

The Sierra is up on eBay.

One crap photo, way too many 'LOLs' in the low rent write-up and car remains untouched. Hmmm.

£323 now. Reserve not met, presumably that's at least £1250!

The EBay description is rather hard to read, I've never seen so many commas!

PRE-PRODUCTION CAR LOL

I'm very sad.

Obviously he's perfectly within his rights. The problem is mine: I expect everyone to be as honest as I am.

Oh well.

So sad to hear this.

I would have loved to take it on but it would have got absolutely ruined with the amount of miles I drive, and I would have had to use it during winter and it clearly doesn't deserve that.

His picture (singular) flatters it.

Mine do to a lesser extent - but are a proper reflection on what it looks like when clean.

Find the old eBay listing and you'll see what the car looks like from the nearside.

Back to 340s....

I had a 345DL 1.4 (W reg?) when I was 18 or 19, slow, didn't handle, drank like a fish, bent pushrods for fun & then the clutch pedal fell off..

I scrapped it & was glad to see the back of it. Every other one I drove at the Volvo dealers I worked at was as bad, guess they aren't for me. Proper Volvos are great, I do like 240s.

EBay auction for the Sierra ended at £1020. Reserve not met!

HA!

I couldn't even bring myself to look at the auction at the end.  I feel a bit better now.  I

Interesting illustration of how pictures/listing time/methods really can command good money.  I bought that car (accidentally) for £510 with poor pictures, low details and an ebay end time of 1501 on a wednesday afternoon.
