Dear Madam,

Having, somehow, accidentally* become the custodian of, what seems to be a cursed,  X reg 1.8 dual fuel  (as fitted during manufacture)  Focus by Ford with not* a hint* of an issue* of a problem* I would  like to have some information about how it works on the LPG side of things.

None of the HBOL for Focuii  cover the LPG side. IS there any information which anyone knows any where on these fine* automobiles that I may, once again, get it to work on LPG. Even a wiring diagram would be a start.

Yours lovingly

E Nosbod.

Google is your friend I think ?

Nope, tried different word combinations for a couple of hours but no joy. Hence....

After even more trawling there is only one Focuii posting fault.

which has a similar problem

"The other issue they diagnosed was an issue with the fuel sensor. The focus uses the fuel gauge to switch the pump off and on. It wouldn't go down to red so therefore it wasn't switching the pump off and hence we think that was why the pump had died.

Everything has been great until yesterday when the gauge dropped to red even though it has a full tank. Which in turn means that the fuel pump won't switch on! "

Which turns out to be my automobile with the same problem.

Mr Moog the the beige phone please.

Did you get it working?

Most annoying thing about these is fuck all about them on internet.

Quite an advanced system, but not in production long enough to have enough data

I naively assumed Ford's own gas vehicle installation would be covered with vast workshop manuals of helpful information as apposed to the previous castros_bro gas vehicle installation which was covered with shame and RAC Recovery. Not having a greenhouse the back of the Ford is presently full of sunflower seedlings (Faceboob.   Sunflower "Gavi" Giant) for a charity thing next week so access for wapping the pressured gas tank with a pick axe is delayed till Tuesday. I'll identify the wires to the sender n check with a meter while hitting things add a switch + resistor to simulate "tank full" in case of mal-function.

If you're really stuck there is some sort of premium rate Ford technical support helpline where you get through to "proper" technicians/engineers that really know their stuff. I've used it in the past with queries about a 24v Scorpio and actually used it a year or two back with a simple query on the Focus when I couldn't get a straight answer elsewhere.

It's like a shameful family secret, like uncle Bob who liked ladies clothes.

All the ford family pretend it doesn't exist.

You might get away with rocking it side to side to free off the float.

They are wibbling about vaporiser's which means the LPG is turned into gas before being distributed to the injectors, the set up on this Focus, as far as I can work it out,  is liquid LPG to the injectors so doesn't have a vaporiser. . The problem is the LPG tank fuel level sender circuit shows zero LPG in the tank even with the tank full so the Brain won't switch to running on LPG. The "hitting the LPG tank n jolting the float"  solution is delayed as I am using the car as a temporary mobile green house. The longer term solution is to find the wires to the tank sender and fit a switch + resistor to simulate a full tank (maybe a second one to simulate empty) so if it happens again I can bypass the LPG level sender.
