As it is now customary to start a collection thread some time ahead of the actual event (what with the risk of unexploded Renault 20 TXs and all that), I thought I'd share my preparations for my Easter Monday 500-mile round trip to collect my roffle winnings. I'm not sure what's more exciting - picking up the Prelude, or meeting the legendary DW in the actual flesh.

A lunchtime walk to Liverpool Street station and these were collected.  Sadly, although WH Smith there has a huge collection of obscure car mags, Japanese Retro is not one of them.

I can see a challenge to use all of the words on the front of that "picture dictionary" in normal conversation on the collection trip

A collection on one of the busiest road maintenance days of the year? WCPGW?

Corrected for truth.

Your maps are far too modern. Ideally you should have a Ye Olde Mappe with a vague shape of Britain but fading out to the west with "Here be Dragons" written on it.

Da iawn! You couldn't find Japanese Retro because it's called Retro Japanese. Although to be fair, I was in our local WH Smiths earlier, and they didn't have it. Mind you, they've not long put German Classics on the shelf, which was out in January. Bit slow. You don't need to buy a copy of Retro Japanese though - one is included in the Boot of Win!

I realised afterwards that I had the name the wrong way round - but they didn't have it anyway. I ordered one online, so will be nice to have a bonus copy!

Putting words back to front is good practice for learning Welsh. Passports must be shown at all border crossings.

09:00  The train to Wales has been delayed, there is a replacement coach service at departure gate 4

10:30 Due to a fire, the replacement coach service at departure gate 4 is unavailable.  There is a replacement bus service at departure gate 6

11:28 Due to flooding, the replacement bus service at departure gate 6 is unavailable.  There is a replacement shuttle service at departure gate 12

13:12 The replacement shuttle service has been delayed.

13:45 Due to a breakdown, the shuttle service at departure gate 12 is no longer available.  The burning replacement coach service at departure gate 4 has been extinguished as the flooding at departure gate 6 has reached it.  Please go to departure gate Q and a half for the replacement interdimensional time-space rift where representatives of a neighbouring planet will arrive to escort you to Aberystwyth.

14:51 The representatives are one strike.  Please go to platform T where a replacement bus-with-train-wheels is available to take you to Wales.  You have 3 minutes to perform a 4 minute sprint.  GO.

Thank you for travelling with West Coast Railways.

What does 'reality' have to do with west Wales?  Have you never watched Hinterland, man?  :D

That's a fine collection of train tickets. Well won that man!

The weather was shite the day that Supernaut flew down to collect OMGa - lots of snow in Coventry and Birmingham - although the next day it was a lot better for the drive up north. Just as well, really, as the two rear tyres on the OMGa came to £56 supplied and fitted, according to the receipt.

However, when Mason was collected, apparently it did not stop raining once, not even for a single minute. 9 hours of constant, persistant rain. He must have had Michael Phelps doing laps in the boot.

This thread needs pictures of blown down trees....

Needless to say, the dire warnings of OMGStormKaos were somewhat... overblown.

Already reached the railway mecca of Peterborough. My ancestors built and worked on the railways in these parts, so it all works.

Thankfully, Katie seems to be giving Wales the swerve, though it was snowing overnight apparently! Doesn't seem to have stuck.

Not relevant to this thread, but the QE2 bridge is shut, severe traffic delays.

Just in case anyone was thinking of venturing that way.

Ah. Take a look at @DyfedPowys's Tweet: https://twitter.com/DyfedPowys/status/714284575300718593?s=09

I think it's going to be an interesting day! I'll head out to check things out shortly. An added dilemma is that fuel is low and the local garage may not be open. If snow is bad, I'll come and collect you in the XM because winter tyres.

Well that adds a bit of excitement.  Fingers crossed.

If you have a can handy, bring that along and I can at least stick 5-10 litres in, making for a slightly unusual petrol station money shot.
