Dave reviews his new booster pack

DBPower model DJS10 12000mAh booster bought from Amazon for 56 Euros.

Mazda/Ford 2.5 turbo diesel which hadnt been started for about a month. The battery is kippered and wont hold a charge for more than a day.

It fired up no problem at all and off camera I re-started it half a dozen times (granted the engine is a lot easier to start once its run and got a little heat into the cylinders) but the booster never broke a sweat. The cables were slightly warm to the touch afterwards.

Verdict from a sample of 1 - Shits cool, yo.

I wonder how long it will be before the average over-complicated BMW 116/316 comes standard with Li-ion/Li-poly cells as the main battery starter pack?

These things are great. This weekend mine started a 2.5TDI Vw transporter that had been sat for 6 months with the interior light on.

Durite do a heavy duty 12/24v one - they claim it will do 1000 amps. Their rep dropped one in at work, I took it to bits to find that this "1000 amps" is fed through some chinese knockoff automotive relays that are rated at 70A in chinese money so thats 45-50 in reality.

The best thing is that when one of these relays inevitably welds shut, changing the voltage over to the other one will short one of the unprotected lithium packs out and the whole thing will more than likely catch light.

I used my tiny pack to power the trailer that delivers our logs yesterday. The huge battery on the trailer was kippered and didn't have the juice to lift the load. The cables got very warm and it did empty the battery in one sitting, but it did it!

You pay to have logs delivered`? My proud boast is that I've not bought logs for over five years - admittedly, I now have two chainsaws and three splitting axes, plus a hydraulic splitter, so perhaps I've saved the grand total of fuck-all........

Your dials don't go nuts while trying to start on low battery 3/10

Mine is just 180A start current and 8000 mAh for £30 but it starts my 5 Ltr V8 Mercedes just fine.

Yes. We don't own enough land to grow our own. Actually, we do have a few Ash saplings. Going to be a good few years before we can harvest...

Yeah, there will always be power to the clamps when they are plugged in. They are rated to 400 amps or whatever your specific model has, and there is no switch on earth that would cope with that sort of current, fit neatly onto the box and not cost too much, so it has to be directly wired to the batteries.
