Ah Bromyard...some call it the Paris of the west. Where some of my family have farmed for many a year out Thornbury way.

I would love to go, but I fear my shite is too shite to get there from Hertfordshire....

The Humber might get there if I get one or two things sorted...I shall watch this space.

Is this still a goer? I'm fancying it, partly for the excuse of a good trip out but that's more difficult to justify if I'm the only AS member there...

Yeah, the question is, will there be a bacon intake meetup in the run up to the festivities?
If yes, could the locals please suggest a shite enough greasy spoon?

The current list of attendants:

1. The Grandaland Greenhouse Gassers
2. Chaseracer's Dirty Diesel
3. MTC's Silver Stellar (probably)
4. Cleon-Fonte's Crap Citroen

On a different note, today I found that they have amended their website with this:

NB: There will be signs at all entrances to town directing visitors to free parking areas. A 10 to 15 minute walk will get the energetic to the town centre whilst a free shuttle bus is available to those wishing to conserve their energy.

Which is a shame really. I anticipated such a nice chaos.

I think I'll probably be there. Which route are you taking?

A470 to Dinas Mawddwy, then either Newtown/Knighton/Leominster or Welshpool/Craven Arms. Probably the other on the way back. Convoy?

Opposite side of Bromyard (Leominster) for most though...

I see some potential for bus shite usage here. Surely such an auspicious* event will have hired in something interesting for the occasion.

Hmm. Probably not a convoy as A44 from Rhayader is my best bet. If I'm in the Dyane, I'd only slow you down anyway!

This looks rather tempterising for afters, since we will be leaving the event via Leominster anyway.

The Granadaland Greenhouse Gassers have decided to make this an epic trip, in their relentless quest to change the climate for the better.

Therefore, on Saturday evening, we will visit the Stockcar race at Brandon Stadium, in what my grandfather has left of Coventry, when he and his buddies tried to unite Europe the first time. We will then spend the night at the Rollaston Wood Hotel, purveyors of noble lodgings in Birmingham (they even have a snooker table), from where we will proceed to Bromyard on Sunday morning. Since a full brecky is included in the room price, we will probably only need a cuppa en route to the Bromyard Festival of Slow.

So I guess wherever you guys meet up, we'll be there.

On an entirely different note, once I had booked our rooms, I got a confirmation email suggesting the following:

Turn your trip to Birmingham into an adventure!

Well, since it is us who are travelling, this is unavoidable by its very nature. I can't believe other people are actually willing to spend money for ending up knee deep in shit.

A suggestion how to avoid our trip to Birmingham turning into the usual karfuffle has sadly not been offered.

Sounds, er, great. See you on the Sunday... I think Chaseracer and FPB7 both have my number for logistical arrangements, unless we try to meet up before being herded to whichever car park of doom we end up in. Might just bring the XM.

Posted

OK, chaps - do we have a plan?  A meeting point?  A clue...?

;)

Posted

A plan? Erm...

I should be setting off around 8ish, and am about 3 hours away. But I'm dropping off a trailer on the way so expect me some time after 11.

Posted

I'm hoping to be there for 10am and the alleged start of proceedings. A pal is going to be there with a red Mk1 Mini Cooper, so I may try and seek him out.

Posted

We will stay in Birmingham tonight, so we will approach from the East tomorrow.

When depends on when and where we meet.

I shall be be attempting to get from Hagley (just near Stourbridge) in the morning for the 10am start. If anyone else is coming in from that direction and wishes to travel in convoy so they can pick up the bits that fall off my Citroen on the way/rescue me if it FTPs I would be most grateful.

Meeting at the event itself may prove fruitless if we all get herded into different car parks, so should the Autoshite contingent go in united?

Doesn't help that I think we'll be approaching from different directions too. Perhaps you Brum-direction folk can meet up on the way? Me and Mat will perhaps just have to try and find you. I'll be in the XM I think.

Yes, to all the above.  I'll be travelling from Cannock so what time, and where?  Breakfast, somewhere on the A456?   :)

Looking at the map, I think I might go the long way home, via the Leominster OK Diner, then past Catsinthewelder's place (cider at the Nelson?!?) and back through Bridgnorth and Shifnal.

Fun roads in a 205.

I'd definitely be up for that.

Happy to share phone number if someone starts the message - difficult to send a group pm from my phone. Can't suggest a place to meet as I don't know anywhere!

Hello, will be coming to this, used to live on the Bromyard Downs from 88 to 95 so will bring back memories. Coming via M50/Ledbury way, planning to be there about 10:30/11ish.

KEWL.

Name the place, early as you like.

I really want to come but Ms C has vetoed it, I'll keep working on her but if you end up at the Nelson drop me a message and I'll nip round.
