Knobs seem like hens teeth. Tried 6 different volvo breakers, there are some on ebay but hey are shipped from the states, otherwise £150 for a new one!

Will, there's a bloke over on the Volvo forum, Gatos is his username.

He's got thousands of bits for these V40's, trays and trays of the stuff.

Thanks for the offer Captain Smooth. The only bit needed was the gear lever knob so should be fine for now.

Re: drop links, I read on here someone's ingenious solution to getting them off was to simply use a large breaker bar to sheer the nut off, by tightening it rather than trying to undo it and having to deal with the spinning ball joint. Never tried it myself but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work

Any recommendations for a decent blow torch? Cheaper the better,

I have nothing to compare it to but my 'GoSystem' blow torch has got me out of trouble a few times, no complaints.

Finest swift bits have arrived....

 

It's a small Asian hatchback and the part is made from plastic so it comes from ....... India!

I think this method might just strip the thread, that's what happened when I used an impact gun to do mine up. My preferred solution if they don't have flats is to use an open ended spanner to dislocate the joint, then grip the ball with a pair of mole grips.

Drop links are easier to remove than they used to be because they don't last long enough to get rusty.

First off the v40 was still letting in a trickle of water so I iced the outer lights

I need to work out how to remove the front seats without setting off airbags.

 

The sound deadening is sopping wet so needs a good dry day.

I always thought that about the swift battery but it never failed to start it even after a couple of weeks!! Nice to see it getting some love!!

To remove seats without setting off airbags and tensioners I just disconnect the battery and go have a coffee. Come back to car half hour later and rip out the seats!

 

Not failed me yet and I've plenty of experience with it :D

Hbol says there is a special clip you put in the side to stop it going off manually. Unsurprisingly both of mine are missing

 

I didn't know if this is because it is side impact bags.

 

Half tempted by the leather interior on eBay! But cash flow is a bit shit at moment.

It's for the Volvo v40. Supposed to be a red clip in the seat base that has gone walkabout.

Put the interior back into the v40 and one of the seat back rest bolts has cross threaded. Fucksticks.

 

 

Looked at removing the door in the swift and one of the screws holding the door on is rusted tight. And is at the bottom of the pull close. Fucking cars.

Serviced the swift in readiness for Scottish trip this evening after the departure of lespace. Aided by my furry apprentice

I love neat touches that help things along. Firing order plus rotation

Aside from a dodgy HT lead (set on order) all done in 20 minutes for less than £30.

 

Runs a lot smoother and idles better.

 

Next job was the drivers door handle. Previously the scene of an attempted break in

Took the opportunity to look at the dropping window. It has broken a metal tab at the bottom. If I could use a sparkly stick it is a two second fix. Will see what the options are.

Bonus is that it has gone from 37mpg up to 48mpg.... So that is essentially free money!

Wow!!! Ok can you send me an additional £50 please as that wasn't part of the deal!!! Paul says he got the letter from the DVLA the other day so thanks for not being a dodge pot and running up parking fines etc!!!!

He was very well behaved, managed not to lick or eat anything bad. Thanks for that bucket man! Today was such a thing.

 

Decided that the sun had got his hat on, I would fit new door locks to the swift. The passenger one works with some wiggling and drivers doesn't.

 

Locks were £12 for both including 2 keys.

 

 

Drivers side knocked off with ease, I set sail for the passenger side.

 

Take 1 door, with funky trim.

That was the were the warning signs began. The outer handle cracked so added that to the buy list.

 

Took the opportunity to sort out the window. It has been dropping off its rails. You can sort of see it is out of it guide5f630d8ce1dd82f66ac10f2d650b0e42.jpg

I was expecting a cracked runner like the drivers side.

Job fixed. Slides easily and is slipperyer that a lard coated eel.

Then it all went wrong. The inner handle cracked and the rods fell out. I spent an hour trying to get it back together. Then chucked tools in the car and left it for today.

 

Volvo is booked in for an MOT tomorrow. Expecting a fail on drop links and perhaps crack in windscreen.
