Before I condemn the ex cavcraft/Taxi Paul  Rover 75 to a fate of a thousand pieces is there a form of downloadable diagnostic software available that anyone is aware of ?

just put easy obd into google,or free obd download, you will need a laptop and interface to view it,my obd lead came with a cd full of the free software, cost just a few quid off fleabay.

what year is the car?is it petrol or diesel.if its 2001 onwards petrol,or 2004 onwards diesel, you can buy a reader from euro car parts or ebay cheaply called maxiscan, the one I have is ace,but doesn't do abs or airbag faults, but reads vag autoboxes

Yes there is, http://www.pscan.eu, the author is a member on here but can't remember the name, maybe he can offer a shiters discount or summat.

Me.

The petrol ones are EOBD compliant so a cheap OBD scanner will talk to the engine ECU, but nothing else.

The diesel ones were no EOBD compliant until 2004 so a cheap OBD scanner will not work at all on them.

The tool that I developed will currently talk to all of the engine ECUs (except the V8), the ABS and airbag controllers.  Other ECUs are still in development.

It also works on most other models of Rover, MG and a few (but increasing) Land Rovers.

I was cheekily hoping for something like my moody copy of opcom that I could nab for free, it's for the ex roffle Rover 75 to work out which airbag and abs sensor was causing the faults. I have a maxiscan( won't read airbag!), opcom, forscan and lead and an ELM 327 lead used with an old laptop

I briefly owned a Rover MG K series that diagnosed itself without software. It blurted dirty coolant from the header tank in a meaningful and obvious way.

Not helpful? As you were...

I hope you can sort this out. Its too nice to be taken to bits. Cavcraft did say the abs sensor was the one on offside rear, so said the man who sold it to him.
