Anyone darn sarf up for a meet up?

Eddyramrod and myself are meeting up at Micks Monster burgers on Portsdown hill (B2177 overlooking Portsmouth City) on Thursday 11th Feb at about 12:00 mid day, since he's down here visiting family.

Anyone else that fancies jumping in for a bit of burger van food and getting some old heaps together is welcome to come along too.

Should be a good afternoon.

I'd be up for that, though be aware Partridge and I organised a meet up at the same place last february and I think several members who attended are still receiving therapy for the extreme cold and gale-force winds which somewhat defined the day!

might also be worth a trip down the other side of the hill to the Southwick Brewhouse where there is:

1. Beer

2. Shelter

They have a nice little car park too which would be suitable for 20 or so cars and is less exposed than the top of the hill. if its a nice day the top of the hill is GR11 though!

Cold? Windy? It WILL be a nice day this time!

Maybe if it does turn crappy we could move down the hill a bit to Southwick. Have to see what the weather does.

If I'm local, yes. Daft mota's a priority.....

Would love to cling to the exposed side of a chalk hill in the middle of winter once again....however I have to work.  Honestly.

The wet rainy weather you lot in the north west have had recently you'd probably feel more at home at the bottom of the Solent Eddy! In fact I reckon it'd be drier down there!

From my childhood the only reason to go up on Portsdown hill was kites or sledging. Of course, I didn't know about Autoshite back then.

Probably mentioned this before, but I had my first ever Autoshite experience on Portsdown Hill.   I was 4.

Sat in Grandad's Farina Wolseley on a grey afternoon.   I was stood on the driver's seat, waggling the wheel about, as kids do when they get the chance.

Fecking thing started moving - slowly but surely - down the gravel car park toward the grassy slopes and the wide blue, well grey, yonder....

Grandad didn't half stamp on the brake pedal quickly and knocked me out of the way to grab the (offside) handbrake....

Very nearly my first insurance claim, 13 years before getting my provisional.

Thursday noon may be difficult for those of us unfortunate enough to be at work...

Posted

Understood, but it's extremely likely we will run on well into the afternoon.  How far are we from the local tat auction? ;)

Posted

Its about 18 miles to Southampton Car Auction from Portsdown Hill but you will be fighting the traffic....

Posted

That's extremely interesting, since we weren't planning to spend the whole afternoon sitting at the top of the hill...

Posted

Also interesting is the fact that I finish work at 6pm, 3 miles from the auction which starts at 6.30.  Ish.

Posted

Well you're out of excuses now, you will have to join us!

Posted

Now thats an idea - I'll have to see whether I can get time off work, but I'd defintely be up for post-work Auction action with some further afield types too. You can see what all the fuss* is about

Auction is on then. :)  Who is it does the Auction Game printouts?

Posted

The auction catalogue can be found at http://www2.amstock.co.uk/millbank/sales.aspxand I'll print some off on the day and bring them along for recording the staggering prices paid for some of these unmissable automotive opportunities.

I'll also rattle off some of the patented (by slothinabowl) auction fun packs and bring them along, but if you want to add some fun by putting cars into categories without setting eyes on them then PM me and I'll whack you a copy over.

Looking forward to it, who all else will be in attendance?

Posted

Top service, thank you; you've probably just earned yourself a cup of whatever slop their machine dribbles out.

Posted

If this runs on into Auction Action time I will probably go there straight from work.   Eddy - no tea machine, its sliding window service of the very best Poundshop quick rinse.....

Posted

I've got the day off work so will make the afternoon meet up ok. I'm busy after about 4:30pm though so can't make the auction afterwards sadly.

I'll be on the hill near Micks from about 12:00ish. I'll be in the Mercury so should be easy to spot! What's everyone else likely to be driving?

Posted

I'm afraid I'll be lowering the tone....

I finish about 12.30 so could be at portsdown by about 3 if you are planning to stay that long or otherwise I can meet  you at the auction can someone chuck me a phone number as I don't really want to add 40 miles to the journey if you have already left........ I am pining for a messy burger....and it would be good to meet a few more peeps...I wont lower the tone as I will be chucking it down a bloody great big hole by bringing the *Crroozer.....

I'm sure we can still be there at 3ish. The Auctions later anyway isn't it?

Should be ok to head for the hill then, get yourself a nice greasy burger from Micks before the auction.

I wouldn't mind a look at your cruiser anyway!
