Shitely request - Collect from Brighton, post North, costs covered.

I've found the correct roofrack for my car but have the double whammy in the way of Distance and being locked out of my eBay account (none of my login details are working, it's being looked into), which is very frustrating.

Can anyone help?  This is the item and it's collection only from Brighton.  I'd be willing to pay someone to collect and post it to me and obviously be willing to pay someone bidding on my behalf using their not-broken eBay account.

This is the item: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roof-Rack-Rover-Honda-200-400-/252236951251?hash=item3aba7e6ed3:g:JiwAAOSwv0tVHX1H

They're a really specific fitment and I've had need of a roofrack several times recently and not had access to one.

Stockton-on-Tees.  Very north, but not as north as Volvos.

Is there a limit on collection time?

I might be down there in a fortnight or so. That would get them as far as Peebo but I visit family in the north west fairly frequently.

I'm happy to bid, if anyone can collect and carry to somewhere near Portsmouth, because I'll be there in a couple of weeks.  If that's any help!

Edit: that would get them as far as the Lakes (M6 J36) which is a good deal better than Sussex!

I'm not doing much with my time so no problem in driving Dow fetching them up to you but probably be unviable due to fuel costs mate

Paying you to drive and collect is going to be quite a lot more than getting them posted by someone local but I appreciate the offer.  I'm wanting to keep purchase and delivery to about £30-40, any more than that and it's a lot to pay for a pair of roof bars even if they are the proper ones with the specific fitment for my car.

That's my point mate. Not really an option. I think its over 200 mile to Brighton alone. I cant be of any assistance unless there is a pass the parcel up the country

Posted

If we're doing pass-the-parcel and we can get them to Portsmouth, I'm happy to meet another Shiter on the motorway for the next leg...

I live just up road from m1,not sure what junction but its where it meets the a610,also close is to j28 and the annesley turn off

Can a Shitefest relay be organised? If they make it to Thame/Marlow, I can put them in the shed then put them into a northern bound (or your) boot at sf16/train day.

I'll get them . 20 miles away , then theres a box of haynes books and roof bars to post to you

Ahhh just remembered My Hermes and RM hate long skinnny parcels £££££?

I would have/make room for the box of books too, no problem.

This is looking good, do you want to handle the bidding too?  We can CoD them at each handover...

I *just* got access back on my eBay account so I can do the bidding on the auction if there's a collection plan forming here.

I'm in Brighton, and will be working in Harrogate from February.

That could be ideal.  I'm not in a rush to receive the roofbars so I'm happy to wait a while before they get to me.

I've now placed a bid on this if that's okay by everyone?  I'm pretty sure collection of some sort can be arranged with one or more of you and it can make its way up the country.

I wanted to bid . :-P . I like winning items! 8)

Somehow i think this is a one horse race though...

I can't imagine anyone will want it but me.

I think Gary's probably closer than I am, but if you get suck I can probably sort something out.

Crazy fool!

I've never fully understood why anyone would bid early in a fixed duration auction as there is next to no gain whatsoever in doing so.

If you know what your absolute maximum bid will be, that's not going to be changed by bidding now or later, surely? Just put your max bid on and forget about it! I know some people enjoy the auction fever but I'd rather wuzz a bid on and then check a week later and see what I've won

If Vulg can't meet you in Harrogate would you be able to drop them into my Office in Wakefield? I could then get them upto the North East if that helps (I visit a site in Chilton once a month and also pass Middlesbrough on my way home.

True, but it also allows the opposition and/or shillers to chip away at it.

You remove that (at least as far as possible) if you snipe. Also if it goes past your maximum before the end, then you don't bid at all and searchers can't guess what you've been bidding/lost out on. No point in revealing your hand if you don't need to. And if you don't have the nerve to snipe live, just get a program/use a service to do it for you so you don't forget.

It's eBay.  I'm as likely to win an item with my first bid as I am panicking about it with my last.  I bid when I bid and usually I win because the crap I go for nobody else wants.  Bid sniping annoys me but some people get a certain amount of pleasure from it and it's hardly likely that some old R8 roof bars are going to be the victim of shill bidding or other shiters bidding against me, is it?

As good a strategy as any.

Why should bid sniping annoy you (or anyone) though? Ebay isn't a live auction and I've just explained why it's done. Potentially disadvantaged are those sellers which end the auction early (and tough titty to them). The only thing that works against the bid late strategy is in the (unlikely) event of a tie, in which case earliest bid wins.

If ebay wanted to kill it off, all they'd have to do is auto-extend the auction by x minutes after the last bid to give everyone another bite at the cherry and play silly buggers bidding wars.
