DABnammit! Accidental ebay purchase delivers fresh misery... Help?

So I was blanket bidding on a bunch of DAB radios on ebay, without much success but managed to end up with this one;

The "scuffed screen" was soon fixed with a bit of T-Cut, however the box it came with was bereft of a wiring loom, and the seller is now "out of the country until March".

I'm a little pissed off, I cannot test the unit until I find one, and the only place that lists them wants a tenner plus postage for one, which is nearly the same as I paid for the flippin' thing in the first place.

Soooooo, first port of call, does anyone recognise this socket to any other manufacturer?

I've tried a Kenwood and Sony harness as well as an older Pioneer.

I'll also need an aerial eventually, I think at this rate I could have bought the cunting thing new for similar money as this bastard is going to cost!

When I got my DAB head unit in 2005 I connected the centre pole of the standard FM antenna to the centre pole of the DAB antenna socket as a temporary measure, and it's stayed that way ever since. When I transferred the unit from my Savanna to my Xantia I also transferred the Savanna's longer aerial because the short Xantia one doesn't even work on FM.

As far as I can tell that arrangement works better than any pukka DAB antenna.

16 pin Pioneer. Apparently* there are at least 6 different Pioneer versions. I even saw a picture of the same in reverse (with the two fat pins at t'other end of the block, so watch out)

The one you want is this:

JSTMAX-car-DVD-Radio-stereo-ISO-cable-16

Fiver delivered on the Chinese place. Give it four weeks!

Here's another:

At least that should point you in the right direction to finding one.

Good luck.

I had one of these clarity units and it was absolute crap. Sounded dreadful. I hoyed it in the bin. I got a Sony DAB for 40 quid off eBay with all the wiring and aerial etc included and it's the business in comparison

Only problem with a lot of Sony, Pioneer and stuff if it's so gaudy it looks awful. That Clarity unit looks like it'd fit in with a lot of dashboards quite nicely. Spent ages looking for a subtle head unit for the MG, in the end just had a portable bluetooth speaker in there.

It's got to be an upgrade for a Picasso's standard unit with a cassette jammed in it?

I'll take a ride out to Halfords tomorrow and see if we can't get a lead to suit it.

I wouldn't bother, a Pioneer lead from Halfords was special order only and £29 when I used to work there a few years back. The cheapest Pioneer stereo was £40.

The obvious choice then is to buy a Pioneer head unit, carefully open the box, remove the leads and then take it back, kicking off royally that there was no lead in there and they're all scumbags and you hope their arms fall off.

Or, buy a spares/repairs Pioneer head unit from ebay?

There's a bloke on our local market has baskets rammed with leads like that, phone chargers for a 1998 Ericsson, NiCad batteries for portable phones, composite video leads for camcorders and stuff. I'll have a look see if it his tat-haul includes one of those.

A lead will certainly be more than the unit is worth.

Also, as mentioned before there are loads of variations in the pioneer plugs.

I once had a Sony unit that was free because the lead was missing and I opened it up - to my surprise the board was marked which pin was which so I soldered on to the pins and filled the socket with silicone.

For a shite bodge it worked fine.

I doubt you will be so lucky.(With the board markings I mean).

If the lead was supposed to be included you could always return it as SNAD.

Even if you do get hold of a lead you might find it's useless anyway, they certainly are around here.
