been out and about with Ms_Bol this weekend, in North wales. Lovely. First spot is this acclaim, out of which were stepping a couple of classically-styled silvertops.

78k on the clock and all the panels were super-straight, even though someone had been at it with the chassis black. even had:

The tartan travel rug!

This 3.4 jag had a 2007 tax disc in the screen, surprised no council officials have crushed it as it looked like it was in a public car park.

Nice Mk1 Triumph 2000 mouldering away near Llandudno

This Mk1 XR2 is near Mostyn, what a rotter! you'd think it would be worth a few quid still though for its assorted bits of rare trim, or to re-build/ring into another shell (standard old ford procedure)

It is obligatory during all trips to N Wales to pay homeage to the mighty DUKE OF LANCASTER:

And now, ladies and gents, the SHITE MUTHALOAD:

OMG ROADLINE!!!!!111!!

Triumph 2000 my personal love, this still looks better than my roadworthy example, that ship is mad,i read a sight about it somewhere, very interesting, nice spots, the XR2 is close to dissapearing, its that rotton, but as you say must be worth a coin for the rare bits.

Woah! THE DUKE IS ONE RUSTY MUTHA! How long's it been sat there/why has no one weighed it in?

Posted

Top spots there Mr_Bollox! That XR2 has just made me fill my Farah's with OMG! 8) Pump the tyres up, re attach the arch trims (to what i dont know) and use as is!! :D

Posted

The boat was going to be used as a casino, or similar, they couldn't get permission and its now a warehouse for a clothing company IIRC.

Yeh, loving the XR2...I'm sure I could get that back on the road given some time and a mig welder.Whereabouts was the Acclaim??? The castle in the background looks worth a visit.

Posted

Some good finds 8) That acclaim with the tarten rug looks super clean. That xr2 looks rotten as fook  but theres gotta be a few quids worth of parts on it, shame . I love them xr2s.

Posted

Conwy I'd guess. Caernarfon's got a cracking Castle too! (I live just down the road from the latter, so wave at any 2cv's if you visit!).

Roadline trailer makes me wonder whether the other bodies there might be anything interesting. Farming relatives were responsible for the death of a few of those as they chopped them down to make agricultural trailers.Nice Acclaim.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, a ROADLINE!!!!!(faints)NNNNNNNNNNG!!!!(keeps passing out)h h h h h h h h hCant breatheTime for a Roadline resurrection thread! 8)8)8) Love the big scary boat too! Aquashite. :D:D:D

Surely the Roadline spot merits some sort of Autoshite award?!

Been there a long time now - since it was decomissioned by Sealink in the late '70's I think. The new owners moored it in situ then filled all the dock around it so it is quite thoroughly landlocked now....

I think I know where there is another roadline, but we'll have to wait till the evenings lighten up a bit more before I can confirm it with a spotting.

That Roadline trailer looks a tad unusual, I'm trying to recall the outgoing trailers when I started with them in 1983/84. I remember them phasing out the Scammel couplings before I started, but they converted some TK bedfords from units to box vans.If I recall they had bigger engines than the other TK's. I think that we had one similar that the workshop used to store parts in.

Like the Acclaim, agree shame about the black tidemark creeping up the waistline.I dont remember roadline except from a Corgi Leyland Terrier I had as a kid :(

Theres not an awful lot of mk1 xr2s, but even then its far easier to get bits for them than, say, an old 5 Gordini or Colt turbo. Just as well theres more of a market for 80s Ford hot hatches then!

Were you in Conwy mr_bol?That Acclaim is.My Volvo lives in teh Conway. If you see an old lady driving an Amazon, it's my gran. She takes it out occasionally to buy cabbage.

amazingly, that XR2 is on a pretty new SORN - due for renewal December 2009. That to me means that someone thinks it'll be back on the road at some point?

Posted

Triumph car to the Austin "your paint's looking a bit shabby & are those rust bubbles I see?"(it was the critical Acclaim)

On the subject of Sunblest and Roadline, did I ever do a thread with all my pics of the bakery vans made by Wilsdon? :? No harm in seeing them again of course, I'll try and get round to it soon.

Hey Reg, you should be a sitcom writer!

(Preferably for The Upper Hand, Duty Free or something similarly crud)

Posted

I must say, I'd watch a sitcom where all you get are 4 or 5 BL-cars in a garage moaning and whining to each other, complaining about the weather or the price of petrol etc.

I guess something like this is what they had in mind:-

LE LYDIA, a ship permanently entombed in concrete and converted into a casino. Works well in Southern France, but maybe not so well in North Wales!

Posted

Did a bit of googling of that ship... seems it is concreted in and has been there since 1979.. its an ex british rail cruise ship apparently.

Found a few pics online and it seemingly has its interior intact and in very good condition.. including an arcade kitted out with space invaders and galaxian!

Class. Its also patrolled by large and very unfriendly security men. Seems a bit suspect that the company that own it have no plans either to restore it or sell it.. yet they have unbelievably tight security around it...

other side even rustier...
