Exactly 12 years since it was first registered on this very day too!

It is an Expression trim level - one up from povo spec (authentique is base). So probably why it's lasted so long, not as much on it to go wrong.

I know this is a crazy thought but does anyone know the sequence of trim levels?

My goona is a Dynamic & has enough toys for me (plus a sunroof which is why they all breakdown), but with half leather it can't be too close to poverty spec can it?

Spoke to the owner* of the silver blue goona. It's actually done 80 or 90 though, used 40k cluster due to (would you believe it) cluster failure. He was given if for free 6 years ago. Has been reliable with zero maintenance, Drivers door car missing so the window, due to a buggered window regulator  (would you believe it) can be manually raised and lowered. Passenger reg also fkd. Key card packed up  (would you believe it), fixed for a tenner of a Bradford ebay bloke.

Clutch now feeling wonky so the end is nigh. Unless Signore Testocoles wants it.

Generally speaking on the Laguna - Authentique, Expression, Extreme, Dynamique, Privilege, GT, Initiale.

Can't remember if Extreme is above the Expression or not though.

Mid-level shite then, excellent.

With all this Laguna excitement I can't compete with the likes of R9UKE, Mr Bollox, SiC, Scaryoldcortina and many many more due to lacking the skills, space and a fully equipped workshop to deal with the tantrums from a pile of steaming French Lagunashite.

So here's my effort at moral support for the trailblazers and setting a challenge for the rest of the readers. Instead of buying one of these heaps, photograph your chariot with a Laguna II. Here's my contribution – a V6 engined example of reliable* French shite beside a working Laguna II in a local car park.

Great pic of the 406 and Laguna together it could almost be some sort of What Car etc style comparison test.

I had a R reg 406 2.0 GLX saloon about 4 years ago, was a great car wish I still had it now. An us having a Laguna II now doesn't help !

Well I'm all talk atm until I get one tbh!

I don't have a well equipped workshop like Mr Bollox or scaryoldcortina, but I'm pretty good with electronics and also friendly with a good+cheap local garage for dirty bits that I cba going under a car to sort. Major failure though would lead to its death mind (i.e. gearbox/engine borkage). But then, as you know, the ES9/L7X is generally a solid lump and the AW55-50 gearbox isn't that bad either - so I'm banking on that a bit. Suspension parts aren't that expensive, and most of the other potential problems are electrical. Plus parts aren't that expensive and its far nicer vehicle than what I'd get paying 150quid p/m for some new under powered shitbox.

It'd also be for running around town, so would only be averaging 6k per year anyway and a FTP isn't all that bad when you're averaging 10-15mph. Plus I have a reliable Civic as a backup that also keeps the other half happy and less bothered if we gain a driveway ornament for a bit. I get into work on a road bike (or bus as a back-up), so don't even have to worry about having something reliable to get to work with!

Even so, I probably shouldn't get one as its a bit silly vehicle. But I get a attitude of WPCGW with cars. I mean, how bad can they really be? :)

Buy a 406 that's all I'm saying. ;-)

Silver facelift 406 is such an elegant car.

But is the cowards way out.

Posted

Is it really true, from your experience, that the phase 2 is better built?.

To be honest I think they sucked a lot of the character out of the Laguna II with the facelift. So in short, yes!

The 2.0 dCi is brilliant, so the problematic diesel issue was sorted. I think the plastics in the cabin went down a level - if that was even possible! They all mark easily and wear horribly and basically it feels like it's been built down to a much lesser price. That electronic parking brake isn't without its issues either!

Not enough of an improvement to justify ruling out the pre-facelift in my experience.

Eazy option: facelift sorted Guna, PFL  front end = best car in world. Get panels in right colour, result.

Heres another pez turbo one with a blown up turbo. I'd be up for this but its on the flippin south coast - too much to get it trucked up to me.

I put the Bristol one on Shiply, as expected its about £150 to get it transported, which is a fair price for 150 miles, but still too much for me to spend just on bringing another knackered car home!

I guess no worse than a similar vintage German car with soft touch plastics? Point noted though.

The v6s do appear to be generally well cared for though. I guess they're not typically the type of car to be used as a general workhorse than say the diesels are.

True, but the v6 is an automatic, so worse case I can leave it in park and worry about it next MOT time.

At least Renault put an emergency release on it, unlike the Passats. From what I've seen its usually the cables siezing, motors dieing (650 sized RC car motor) or main relay on the PCB. I'm intreged to see if a Scenic EPB module could be convinced to work on it too with a bit of fiddling.

(I'm ever the optimist!)

Its the 1st april - whats that on my drive?

P1080240.jpg

Only a Gooner 2!!!!! Yes red Gooner is on the road, went up the garage last night with my computer, checked for broken springs etc, none were present so I swapped the insurance over, SORN'd the Volvo and drove home in the Gooner.

P1080243.jpg

Driven it to work today and started to get into the Gooner groove.

Driving impressions: It certainly drives alright, its super quiet and smooth and quite lively though not what I would call quick. Driving position is very good, quite low but very comfortable with good lumbar support. 80mph is about 3600rpm so the liveliness is achieved by low gearing I guess. Shame only the turbo models have a 6-speed box. Theres no clonks or rattles and most stuff works, including the flippin hazard switch!!!! Its got a 'Cabasse Auditorium' CD multichanger stereo which actually sounds pretty good to my untrained ears, I don't know how many speakers it has but its several and the old 'Steely Dan' CD was sounding sweet as I drove home last night. I need to find a way of having an AUX input to that so I can listen to a few podcasts etc. Despite the low gearing it cruises quite well on the motorway although the first time I got up to 80mph two of the tyre pressure sensors flagged up a fault - I need to find someone with a CAN Clip thingy that can disable that hopeless load of bollox.

P1080242.jpg

One thing that was a bit upsetting was the minging interior which properly honked of fags, so tonight I gave it a bit of a half-arsed scrub-up with hot water and 1001 upholstery cleaner

P1080244.jpg

P1080245.jpg

As R9UKE said, the seats cleaned up quite easily and came up well. 2 Vulgabuckets of minging grey bilge got chucked in the ditch. I am looking forward to getting in it tomorrow and not having my nostrils hammered by the stink of tabs and magic trees!!

P1080241.jpg

As this thing has sat around so long, it now has about 3 weeks MOT left!!!! So its booked in on Weds of next week for a test. I dont think it should fail on owt too tragic but I am slightly worried about the dephaser pulley - its still a little tappy on the top end at Idle though much better than before. I can feel the occasional miss at idle which I think is something to do with the dephaser though it revs cleanly and is silent above 1500rpm. That coiuld cause some problems with the emissions test. My plan for that is to chuck a bottle of engine flush in, leave it for a week and drain the sump and refill with the proper 5w30 fully synthetic, hopefully that will shut the dephaser up.

I also think its sitting a little low at the back, the old toolbox is in the boot but I think the springs must be a little tired, maybe its towed a caravan once too often. I see they are only 30 for a new pair off eBay and can be fitted without compressors so if it passes the MOT without a big spend I might tackle that. Or I might just lob in the rubber spring assisters that are on the Volvo at the moment. Tyres are a slightly motley selection of varying ages and makes that I would probably replace if this was a long-termer.

Anyway I am stuck with it for at least a month now so we'll see how it gets on! so far so good but I didn't instantly fall in love with it, (perhaps unsurprisingly). I am now dependent on this Gooner to get to work - wish me luck!!!

You can't possibly do worse than my single day of taxed before the engine died. Or can you?

edit - taxed at 9.00 am on the first, blew up 9.00pm on the third. 2 1/2 days....

Utter bargain!

I'm sure there is bound to be someone on here would want it. ...I really do myself!! Just have no remote chance of getting there before someone else bags this - as its 200 miles away from here (Bristol). :(

Are there any shitters anywhere near Basildon that could allow me to a remote purchase of it? (With collection later in the week) :)

In my seemly continuing quest to fill this thread with random eBay/Gumtree Lag2s, here is another one of interest.

Laguna 2.0 petrol turbo but with added spice:

post-20071-0-61392700-1459786225_thumb.jpg

https://www.gumtree.com/p/renault/renault-laguna-gt-2006/1162709802

Why?

205bhp stock, remappable to 253bhp

Faster to 60 than a v6. When remapped, I'd imagine it'd be pretty damn quick. Apparently the same turbo and injectors as in the Megane 225.

Red seats too.

post-20071-0-44891500-1459786277_thumb.jpg

Probably a good colour to hides the marks when you realise you're stonking along in a Lag 2 with a fair chunk of power.

I'd still rather the soundtrack of a v6 though...

I am feeling increasingly inclined towards a 2.0 Turbo manual rather than a V6. I'm warming to mine more and more, if it had another gear and a little more mid-range urge it would be perfect!!!!

Haha they seem to sell all over the place.

Shame RenaultSport never did one.

Would be quite interesting to see what they'd come up with if let loose on it.

This one is a boring 2.0 N/A but interesting because:

a ) has a boot spoiler for added speed *

b ) cheap phase 2

c ) not tragic fault (ABS probably just a sensor, or worse case just a second hand ABS module needs bolting on).

This was £450 TODAY ONLY on Friday and again on Saturday. £350 TODAY ONLY on Sunday. Now £250 TODAY ONLY today.
