Another advisory rant

Our focus estate had advisories on the current MOT and the previous one for the rear seat belt mountings - corrision the was not excessive.

As the MOT is due in three weeks I thought I better have a look.

I have seen worse on four year old cars. As I did not want any more advisories I got the kurust and stonechip out.

If I get another "advisory" in relation to corrosion I will see my arse. I will tell tester to get it back on the ramps and show me. I will then show him what I have done.

However, the exhaust is not long for this world.....

Its more of an arse-covering visual observation. My tester always takes a 'holistic' approach when testing my old Corsa, taking into account its age. Always very reasonable.

Testers Comments (advisory) :-

"Well, I wouldn't drive the fekka home!!"

I think it's best not to take it to heart. If he'd not mentioned it you might never have had a look and took preventative action. I'd want to know if anything was marginal and might be a problem at the next test. Saying all this though, if I was looking through the autotrader for a car I would usually fuck off all the cars with advisories for rust as once it's set in you've had it.

The issue with me is this - I have wholly realistic expectations of an 02 plate focus and all the misery that owning such a vehicle entails. The advisory did'nt stop me buying it as long as it was'nt terminal, I could repair it myself.

However, when the time comes for me to move it on no doubt somebody will accuse me of selling something dodgy and threaten me with Dominc Littlewood, Matt Allwright, Roger Cook, Esther Rantzen ad infintum....

The car is a 51 plate - reg Feb 2002.

For such an old ford it is surprisingly good underneath - the rear of the o/ sill may need a small amount of work but that's it.

I have seen a few were much of the sills have disappeared.

You know what this good news means? That a laguna may not be on the cards....
