Bit more tinkering on it today

First off was to replace the breather pipe.

The previous repair had not held and was venting oil fumes all over the engine bay.

post-3994-145467195971_thumb.jpg

After a dig around in my shed I found some conduit that was roughly the right size.

Sliced the end and tucked it into the intake hose then used gaffer tape to seal it.

post-3994-145467199248_thumb.jpg

Received proper fuel hose clips so sorted out the fuel filter. Decided to simplify it at the same time to minimise any air leaks.

post-3994-145467205614_thumb.jpg

Clear hose shows no air bubbles so a bit of a result.

Also detuned it some more. Turned the fuel screw down so idle dropped 300 rpm then adjusted the idle screw to bring it back to 900 at hot idle. Full boost doesnt bring smoke now, so should improve mpg.

Testament to the tuning that chompy achieved that it now feels like a diesel rather than a petrol. And would be lying if a part of me didn't miss it!

Have got an auto sparky coming today to sort out tailgate lights and also do the hrw relay mod. Then will need a good wash and clean .

The standard filter has 5-10 micron media, the strainer in the in-line filter you've installed is something like 125 microns. OK as a temporary fix but you need to put a proper filter in there.

Posted

It's just temp filter for next 300 miles before putting back the metal filter. I just wanted to see if any rubbish was coming through.

No reason, it was the second pipe before and I didn't cut it down. Once I have run a tank through and the clear filter is fine, will sort it out properly

Done 3k in this now since mid December. Aside from a couple of grumpy moments it hasn't had a ftp.

I think the pug seats definitely make a difference.

Posted

Pug seats eh! 405?

Whereabouts was the solder done for the blower? Well chuffed mine works again, but it is still either on full or auto. Although I can live with that I guess.

Given that it was using my other key that fixed* it, I'm now trying to find somewhere to get new keys cut...

I thin Chompy did the blower. It was the power to it.

Decided to give it a wash today as it was filthy.

Rust on the door shut needs doing. Will have a look when it is warmer.

post-3994-145546228018_thumb.jpg

Drivers side could do with a cut back as the dirt is quite ingrained.

Looks a decent 10 yarder now

Other thing to attend to is the front number plate is loose. Will get some screws for it.

Have a bonus civic

Which reminds me I need to get the drivers rear tyre sorted.

That rear arch needs the outer skin cutting off and the metal behind sorting out.  When I repaired it I really needed to remove a lot more than I did.  It's something of a moisture trap behind and difficult to sort out, a known weakness on the estates I'm told.  Shouldn't need to buy screws for the front plate, it's velcroed on but the velcro is held to the bumper with screws, just use those, they should be long enough.

Cheers Vulgalour. Will have a better look at numberplate.

Maybe using bits of an Alfa Romeo door as a patch wasn't my best idea to prevent rust from returning ;)

Asking for big trouble, running without a proper filter. I use those in place of a tank strainer, before the main filter.

The smaller the particle, the more damage it does. Would be a shame to see the car scrapped because of borked IP and injectors.

Good to see you tanking along in this yesterday Will, and glad you waved back... you did know it was me right? (Not just any random nutcase!)

This site is really making me want to get my fix of XUD again.

I spied the pleasure wagon! Didn't think there were many about. I had oil envy at Wills setup

BMW filter is back in place. Will do update pics.

Regards to the rust patch is it likely to be MOT failz? Both sides need doing really.

Posted

Strictly speaking probably "yes", though a roll of that white pound shop gaffa tape might wing you a pass...

Posted

Mot not till December, but something to bear in mind.

I think I will look at changing cars in about July time.

Roffle? I miss my white Xantia TD estate.

They all rust at that seam, estates particularly, because they're practically coachbuilt from part-finished berline shells.

What the thinking with this filter, is it bigger? I often subsititute odd filter heads for something Bosch so cheap screw-on filters can be used, of varying sizes.

Posted

Yes, I've just binned the standard, leak-prone filter in my Caddy for a Bosch spin-on, £4 filters instead of £10 filters.

I think the BMW one is what chompy used to bypass the standard plastic XUD filter housing, it's like a very posh in-line filter.

Yeah, those R-clips are pretty shonky. I likeez big filters, preferably siamesed and with heated ports. Part of me would like a see-thru bowl as part of the dashboard instrumentation - not impossible, especially on the A6 which has its fuel supply pipes routed inside the passenger compartment.

Washing car before night of freezing weather was a stupid thing to do. Drivers door opened but wouldn't shut!

Now won't lock.

Piss on it...

I remember my old ZX used to freeze its doors shut regularly. Many was the morning I'd have to take a boiled kettle out there and douse the door edges and lock/handle!

This happened on the 75 last week. I held the door open, locked the car then closed the door. Did the trick after much faffing.

Updated with filter pics.

More veg in. Without petrol it sucks the bulb in. 10% petrol and it's happy as Larry.

I need to get a way to get some and premix it. Currently I fill up with veg and go to garage to bung petrol in.

This will be going up for sale by end of the week.

I going to do an oil change, decent clean and try and look for the dodgy earth on the tailgate before then.

If anyone wants it before I have done all the jobs would take £300 now. Mot to December and comes with 3/4 tank of vegetable goodness.

Posted

In order to reduce my earache from missus Moog this is up for sale.

Good

1.9td xud that loves veg

118k

MOT - December 2016

Had recent clutch, cambelt courtsey of vulg/chompy

Oil change done today

May have get you home tax (depending on purchase price)

Comes with 1/2 tank of veg

Massive boot space

Squishy 405 seats fitted

Challenges

Earth issue I think with tailgate lights - the brake lights work but not on tailgate. If you lift it up halfway they work again

Door shuts are getting a bit rusty again

This is a car that just seems to go on and on. I wouldn't hesitate to jump in it and drive anywhere.

Price - £375 - potentially able to do installments for establish shiters

Location - Accrington

I am up in Edinburgh a few times in the next week so could deliver it up there. Alternatively maybe able to drop it in London city for train ticket home.

Will get photos up later this afternoon as phone is playing silly buggers
