Not particularly old car related, soz, but I found one of those 'world's biggest machines' type thing that usually ends up on some Channel 5 documentary. I found this incredible, and worth a thread in its own right.

 

This is the boat lift at the Krasnoyarsk Dam in Siberia:

I am more amused by the huge scaffolding pantograph style arragement to power it, like the world's biggest tram with gears.

That's bloody great that is....Only a Soviet type regime could withstand the public cost of such an undertaking of course! Reading up on it, seems the associated dam is to do with the factory that turned these mothers out...

Thats a fair bus.

 

Did a bit more research, and the 'thing' in the picture above isn't itself a boat, it is just a sledge. That 'sledge' gets submerged and fills with a boat AND WATER, then gets propelled to the top. To me, it makes it even more mind boggling!
