What parts do the Citroen Xantia and Peugeot 405 share?

My father had a 405, and the clutch cable needed replacing, for reasons that I can't precisely recall (1997, yonks ago!). The garage were going to order a new one in for him, when the boss interjected that it would be prudent to use the one they already had for a Xantia - which they were doing up to sell on their forecourt in due course.

A question that has played on my mind somewhat over the years: What other parts did these two cars share? I should be fascinated to know! I think I heard somewhere that the valve seats were identical on the 1.8 405 petrol engine and one of the Xantia engines - can anybody confirm this?

Flippin LOL, I believe the numbers on the speedometers are interchangeable between the two.

PSA? Since Citroen and Peugeot were PSA I guess there'll be loads. Most pug and CIT model from the late 80s on (maybe?) will have parts in common between comparable models?

Did you spot the R20 in the eBay thread? Any good for you?

Primarily, a the sense of ennui and disappointment installed from the factory.

Not much. Xantia is cut down-XM, you'll find more between 605 and Xantia. More to the point the 405 was the end of a design language and technique that began with the 305.

Yes I did thanks, but it's waaaay overpriced IMO. He picked it up for £650 at auction, and it's not met reserve at over a grand! Some guy trying to make a quick buck. If it's been sat 30 years, it will need £1k to get it running to full efficiency, I'm sure!

Does look in nice condition though!

The Bitron relay from the Xantia can be used in the 405/406 - however attempting the reverse to use the relay from a 405/6 in a Xantia will cause it to shit its green blood and grind to a halt due to the different pin configuration.

Great colour. Had any more thoughts on your French one?

Someone is/was offering help with collection in your collection thread I believe.

I spotted that just now. Thanks to them, etc. Despite all the ridicule, I am leaving off the Paris trip till things calm down. Wife and 2 young kids to put first.

Insane conspiracy theories and vague threats of jihadi terrorism.

Don't be ridiculous

That's interesting, to look at their cars, I would say that the 405 was the start of a new design era - it certainly is the first model that looks even vaguely refined

That's not true, the Xantia is very close to the BX, just enlarged. I can't think of any parts it shares with the 605. The C5 uses an updated 605/XM platform.

I'm not a technician, but I think your dad might be fully interchangable.  And I mean fully.

Xantia has more in common with a 406. I can look this stuff up but it'll get old very quickly.

I do believe it was the Xantia 1.8 petrol that has same valve seats...

My fiancées friend's eldest daughter is called Xantia. She hates it when people shorten it to 'Tia. True story.

Does she go up and down like a Xantia? Or leak any fluids?

yes it was. Want the full half hour?

By design language, I don't mean the styling exclusively. Underpinnings. 406 moved on to much more sophisticated rear suspension and vastly more complex interiors, much higher quality materials.

You said 405 in the first post. I suppose the 405 was a big step up from 305.

I have paid for the full half hour and I would like the full half hour. Even if it's just talking. It's the principal of the thing you see.

No it wasn't. The 405 was a bigger leap forward over its predecessor in pretty much all aspects, than was the 406.
