purplebargeken Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 This is such a sad tale. This was a very cherished Merc, and was something that I coveted since I clapped eyes on it a few years ago. Sadly a couple of days ago the following occurred: lovely Mercedes 190 + wrong gear + panic accelerator + house = Oh Fuck, CRUNCH. Resulting in: Looks nice from this view: The interior is tidy but does need a clean: The car is in Crews Hill (Enfield). Will need to be trailered (obv). Price: whatever someone offers above scrap value which is around 50 quid. It'll yield good panels and wheels, etc. Engine and gearbox were spot on.
spike60 Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Everybody ok? That's a nasty head print in the screen.
purplebargeken Posted November 22, 2015 Author Posted November 22, 2015 Thankfully the road he shot across was devoid of traffic at the time, the house was an empty let and he had a slightly cut lip from colliding with the steering wheel. Not sure what did the screen in. Such a sad end for a rather nice car. He was going to use the Mondeo but another mate's elderly Mum has stopped driving her Astra auto and he decided to go for that instead but is struggling with insurance costs as they now want £52 a week from him. A tad too pricey for him methinks.
warren t claim Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 A sad end to a nice looking Merc. Should still export nicely though.
purplebargeken Posted November 22, 2015 Author Posted November 22, 2015 The guy who owned it before him was absolutely fastidious about it. If I had the 500 quid at the time it would have been mine.
omegod Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Such a shame and i'm surprised the house is still standing !, that would break very well over on mercedes190 forum. I still find bits of my old one in the shed and they always sell easily
purplebargeken Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Is it of use to anyone at all? No nibbles yet from the 190 forum unfortunately.
JohnK Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I have all the parts (albeit in silver) from my breaking Merc to repair this if anybody was interested .. Depends what it looks like underneath I guess
BorniteIdentity Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Hey Ken. Big love to your pal. Hope the only thing hurting is their pride (wallet aside). Do you know how many miles is on the motor? If it's quite low - a friend might have it as a rolling spare.
purplebargeken Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 His pride may actually be more dented than the car itself. Good question. I have no idea. I shall ask. I don't think it had intergalactic mileage on it. The engine was a good 'un and very reliable - phakt!
Christine Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 125 k or so i'd say ... in March it had done 120k..
purplebargeken Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Possibly a tad less but that is a fair assumption. The MOT history suggests around 5 to 6K a year. He hadn't long gone to Scotlandshire in it (and back). Doh! Forgot about the MOT check thing. Bloody useful that!
trigger Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 That's a sad sight but I'd say it was still a bargain, it will break for good money if you can be arsed
purplebargeken Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 I feel very sad each time I look at the pictures knowing just how nice a car it was. Damn
