Right folks. Acquired this the other day. Thought I'd post pics for anyone perverted enough to actually be interested. Saxo 1.5d in sx flavour so has got leccy windows, partial central locking, sunroof, front fogs but no switch and comfy seats. Low mileage for its age but living where I live and bad weather means cars get filthy quick. Obligatory wheel trim missing, trim missing on passenger door and both passenger doors dented. Clean underneath and under bonnet though. Sunroof don't leak and central locking don't work on passenger door sometimes. Idle issue which I'm trying to sort out. It starts and idles ok then starts get lumpy after so long and does it round town too. If I switch it off then start again it be fine for a short while. Starts first turn with one glowplug cycle so don't think it's too bad. Reg vardy plates and stickers also still present. Looks like it's had a knock at some point as front wing is flat. Mot till may also.

Looks thoroughly miserable and the dirt adds to the appeal.

Hope you have better luck with this one

The Zippo lighter is presumably* part of the master plan?

It's dirty due to shit derbyshire weather means if I drive a mile after washing it it will look like that again. As for the lighter, you never know when it may be needed! Great little motor though.

Could the idle issue be down to the fuel filter?

The Zippo has higher fuel consumption.

It's had a new one on before I bought it to cure it but don't seem to have worked, not sure if there is a in-line one somewhere though. When ut starts to chug it kicks out a load of smoke too. I'm wondering if air filter could be blocked. I'm not sure if this is ecu controlled or not too.

I'm sure I can mate. We will have to see at the next mass wollard

Thanks for vote of confidence! I may invest in a ground anchor and winch

Thanks for vote of confidence! I may insure it fully comprehensive and just invest in a new flint for the Zippo

I really miss our old '97 Sax D. Just a very capable little car. Fun to drive too. Yes, really. Hope this one serves you as well as our one did.

It's been alright so far. Spectacularly slow but to be expected. Quiet a bit of low down grunt and bypass overtakes take planning. Looks grim I must admit but it does the job. I would actually keep this as well as vectra due to low tax and mpg

As LP says.. nice Bosch pump on that so you'll save the purchase price in no time  :-D

I've had 106 diesels for years and they have proved themselves many times over!

Has the timing belt been done?

Posted

Paid 190 for it with 3 previous owners, mot till may. Not sure when belt was done but with my run of luck I don't know what to do either! Yes,pump is bosch and aldi have veg oil in at 89p a litre.........

Sweet, they're not bad little things, although peddles are a bit too close.

When you want rid, can I have that Reg Vardy sticker? Ma's Micra came from there.

Please don't take offence, but that can't be a bad thing! You just need some nice undramatic A-B motoring, that doesn't involve C and D (where C is a stone wall and D is a HiAb).

You've gotta be due some luck, surely?

You have us - how lucky do you need to be?

Don't answer that...

Have you checked the clear fuel line for air yet Bub? These things are so simple (and very rugged once all the pointless plastic bits have fallen off  ) that there can't be too much wrong with it.

I've always liked the fact they're in the cheap tax group for pre-2001 cars; not many diesels can claim that!

Can't see no air bubbles. Not sure if this is part ecu controlled too. I think it's got an egr valve which will be disconnected and if it's got a cat then that can go too

Posted

I can't see the ECU that is mounted near the battery on the later ones so I'd say it's totally mechanical- which is good!

The little microswitch on top of the pump controls the EGR, but on these you can just unplug the electrical connector on the egr solenoid on the bulkhead and the EGR will stay shut.

If only you were closer, I'd happily spend a morning checking all the usual TUD5 running problem weak-points with you!

Where are you rocket? I'd be most appreciative of someone with more knowledge of diesel engine than me checking the old girl over.
