What did they think they were bidding on? It was clearly something fairly old and ordinary.Looks nice now that it's been unveiled though!

I find it incredibly mean of them not to pay. They knew what they were getting into.

Would you pay 2 large for a Sierra 1.8LX these days? I think he was always being optimistic by thinking he'd get a paying winning bidder if the car turned out to be shite.

No, I wouldn't pay £2k for that Sierra. But I also wouldn't bid £2k on a charity auction for a mystery car if I wasn't prepared to pay that amount whatever the car turned out to be.

Not surprising they didn't cough up. I've done a couple of 'chazza' auctions, both ended up unpaid with me out of pocket

It wasn't purely a charity auction, he was going to donate 50% of the final price to the CAB which means he'd have still been well in pocket given the car he was selling. As it is, he now has nothing to show for his efforts.

Had it been purely for charity I believe he'd have had more success. I have some personal experience of this as Mrs AX has set up several eBay charity auctions involving freely donated cars we've both done up and so far she has raised in the region of £4700 to date for cancer charities.

Although the CAB is a worthy organisation, I don't think it figures highly in the list of charities that the average man (or woman) in the street wants to support.

I knew it was a Sierra, it was plainly obvious due to the front bumper and wing mirrors. This whole thing was to boost the seller's career, see the link to 'about me', he's a rather crappy Del-boy style 'entrepreneur'.
