There must have been a point where they (management rather than workers) realised the warranties were going to amount to zilch, and just screw everyone over.

 

Mind you - there are costs associated with deleting access panels (and retooling the rest of the panel), removing aerial screw holes (more retooling), making up new looms.

 

Perhaps it was just workarounds for manufacturers of certain parts not wanting to supply any more, nervous about not getting paid. Can't get the Rover 45 aerial any more? Use a 25 one and have to pay out for a new roof press. Supplier of rear ARB has told you to do one? Use stiffer bushes and carry on.

In any line of business once people get wind you are failing any line of credit gets closed. Ironically it's usually this that sends them over the edge, especially situations like this where you rely on getting parts on credit and pay later.

That's what killed Comet. Everyone pulled their stock back and wanted up front payments.

 

Also, exactly the same for Phobes4U. One day, they were all asked to send their stock back to base and await further instructions. Every supplier had simultaneously got the wobbles about credit.
