Another insurance rant

I was insured with kwit fit on the 'busa last year. It cost me £145 with no extras.

Renewal date approached - nothing heard from kwik fit so I renewed with MCE for just over £100. ( included breakdown, personal injury and leathers).

I could'nt get through to kwik fit because it was the weekend - they were closed Sunday when I took out the new policy.

I rang kwik fit today to ask for my proof of NCB - they told me that the policy had automatically renewed and that I had been sent the renewal through the post on Sept. 14th.

The renewal price? £251!!!! If I had received anything I would have told them to shove it there and then.

Because the policy had started they wanted to charge me £41 in fees - this was reduced to £11 because I had not received anything from them.

I have my doubts that they have sent anything out - that is without doubt the highest renewal I have been quoted on a bike.

It is partially my fault for leaving it late - in my defence I am either at work or hospital because of my son.

I will not have anything with kwik fit ever again.

I had this happen to me a couple of years ago. I refused to pay, made a formal complaint and explained they would be hearing from the financial ombudsman.

They said they would waive the charges as a "gesture of good will"... Dishonest twats !

What has pissed me off is the fact they have my email address but neglected to use it.

It raises my suspicions that nothing was ever dispatched in the post.

I am waiting to see if my renewal turns up after today.........

even if its the cheapest i refuse to deal with brokers ive never heard of or ones like yours where their business isnt insurance

had the auto renew thing even when they were told in writing when i got my renewal not to as the renewal like yours was pulled from the stars

they saw the wrong end of a solicitor and i got all my monies back and they got a warning :D

edit oh and the email thing pisses me off - they will send you offers blah blah etc but the important shit for docs info and they dont think it exists

Had that with Bennets.  It was over £100 and taken from a credit card so all I did was get the money back from Nat West Visa whilst giving Bennets grief on their Arsebook page saying they had stolen my money  so I'd report it to the poilice to get an incident report number then take their chief exec (name + address is in public domain) to the small claims court (an online process)  to recover the money.  If it's direct debit the same can apply because of the "direct debit guarantee" your bank should refund all the money to you and they take it from the insurance.

This smells fishy to me..

My arse they sent anything on the 14th September.

What they would have done is generated a letter on the 14th September to cover their arses, but who knows if it was stuffed in an envelope and sent to you?

A lot of brokers use this fiddle. Whenver I take out a new policy I record the call and make a point of giving them notice that that they aren't to auto-renew it - worked so far.

+1 and I find the renewal quote is strangely more competitive when you do that as well.

Aye, 1st thing to do when getting insurance is e-mail them and say that under no circumstances are they allowed to use a Continuous Payment Authority on your card.
