Quick questions.

Window winders. How the feck do they come off?

Clock, how in gods name do you get to the bloody thing to replace it?

Ta :)

Ken

Is the clock just dim and invisible at night. I bought a replacement clock but only changed the bulb over in the end.

Start by prising the wooden trim out with a flat blade at the passenger door end. Just pops out and clicks back in! A 5 minute job that actually took me less for the first time ever and I didn't break anything !!

Yep, the clock readout is very dim indeed. Cool, I will try that tomorrow.

The door check mechanism is now fitted (thanks again Joe). I've never seen so many bloody screws in a door card FFS :)

Door feels much safer now and saves my foot being used inappropriately.

I forgot I'd posted them, cheers Ken, glad they've sorted you out. P&P was pennies so not worth your time refunding me.

The clock can be swapped inside five minutes as Tam explained. I think you only needed the little bulb to brighten yours up, but the whole unit is so light I sent it anyway.

The check strap thingy I promised to whoever ended up with the car, as I noticed at Shitefest that it was missing.

You asked me about the aerial, they're a weak point and a PITA to change. I don't think they can be swapped without pulling the dash so I never got round to doing it on my Rover.

Joe, your box is full again!

Sorry Phil, I'm just too popular! Space duly cleared. Try again old chap.

Thanks very much Joe, sure you don't want summat for them and the p&p??

Next time I'm at the breakers I'll snip one off something and replace the one on the Rover and it has a bent tip lol+++. I'll just remove it when parked up.

They look a pain to do properly :(

Took this for a proper spin today and I love it. It's nippy, nice to drive and comfy. It also got a few looks too, deffo the car and NOT me. Ben calls it a pensioner car. Pfft.

I might get the tracking checked as there was a slight wobble but only very minor.  99.99999% on the happy scale.

I did go to the lock up yard to do a side by side with the Dolly, however, there were about 30 thousand cars crammed in there so I didn't bother. Twunts.

Definitely not a pensioner car!

Glad you continue to be happy with it Ken. Good shout on whoever suggested a LHD door card as well, I never thought about that!

I'm taking mine on a chippy run this  afternoon. It's surprisingly capable with 4 adults on board! Nippy and enough torque to cruise in fifth.

Like you I'd love to find a good drivers door trim plus a whole good interior in my case.

At the last car show the little 3 door got a bit of attention and even had a young fella who wanted to sit in it to get his photo taken.

Conclusion is perfect little and cheap enough almost classic  :-D

I agree totally Tam :)

Fitted Joe's replacement bulb and then the clock which made no difference. Can you get new bulbs and holders?

Posted

Must be able to get the bulbs there just a twist in dashboard bulbs.  See them on ebay but not sure if wattage and technical stuff that I know bugger all about is important  :-(

The clock is a bit expensive new

Hmm. I wonder if these clocks are a common fail then. I did send one off to another AS-er (Gricey, I think).

This one was from the red Chompy Rover. I didn't drive it much so don't know for sure if it worked.

Maybe your feed to the bulb is faulty (turns off when you put sidelights on).

Failing that, JohnK will have a known good clock in this white breaker when he comes to collect it.

No worries guys, it isn't vital. I can see the time but it is faint.

That would be handy Richard, has to be worth a go as I doubt it will b e pricey.

Pretty sure you will just need a bulb then. It's a small inconvenience but surprisingly satisfying when fixed  :-D

5 minutes of fettling resulted in some left over stainless fasteners from various MGF's being put to good use on the 214.

No photos 'cos it isn't that exciting.

Hah, the clock's gone in the 220SLi too. It's very dim and shows completely random times.

Posted

I have a spare if you want it. It'll need a bulb like mine does.

Cool! So the clock bit works on both yours then Ken?

Posted

Yeah, the clock bit works. It's just that you can't see it very well :)

I had a spare 30 mins this relaxing* Sunday morning. I know! I'll clean the Rover interior a bit more :)

Making good progress until I look under the passenger seat and what do I find? Used McDonalds containers. JHC John, you have got a serious habit fella.

Just have to vacuum it later this afternoon. I have a black bin sack ready for the McDonalds finds :)

I can't take responsibility for the second wrapper I'm afraid! Those in the boot were my only ones!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Denial and all that eh?

If it were cans of special brew then that would be different!

Posted

Funnily enough there was an cheese pickle sandwich box with half left under the passenger seat of Raffa as well. Took me about a week to notice! Only problem was I dinna like cheese so no even worth toasting

Dinna mind Special brew! Canna taste feck all after a couple of mouthfuls any way  Never managed to finish a 4 pack in one sitting either so quite economical  :-P

All you did in this car was eat! :D

Just bought a manually adjustable door mirror for the passenger side. It doesn't have one. It was bugging me.

Forgot to say that under the mirror trim was an electric mirror plug. Looks like it was the only one to hand at some point :)
