Pillocks Pickings - Slovenly Spots Edition

Thought I'd pop my 'spotting' cherry and risk walking around my hood with a camera. Not many, but they were taken on a dog walk and she's only got little legs so they're within about 1/4 mile of my gaff.

1972 Range Rover - interior is full of spares and parts taken off but not been touched in months

Posted Image

5-Series that's gradually getting raided for spares it seems, the back lights went last week and then bonnet's been popped. Assume not vandalism as the glass is intact!

Posted Image

Been there as long as I can remember. Looks like someone thought it was worth 'a bag of sand' or three though! :)

Anyone for an Screwball? Three CFs - King Whipp and the one behind the Vectra never move, the Bob's Ices on the street is in daily use.

 72 range rover is worth big coin regardless of condition.... GR8 4 ringing a '91 Vogue TAX EGGZEMPT.

Well it's on a K which is '71-'72 isn't it? I dunno, maybe it's got no VIN on it any more which is why it's sat there :)

Pillock I thought I'd wang these on the back of yours...

I like this idea... but shurely you'd get busted at MOT time?
Posted

Not really, so long as you switch the tags around, and have a relatively 'flexible' / un-clued-up tester. With some RR's it's fairly obvious, but plop a CSK onto a '72 plate and it's harder to prove one way or t'other. Land Rovers are even easier, up to 79 the only tag was a plate on the bulkhead secured by 4 normal screws, so you just unscrewed the tax-exempt VIN and put it on the other vehicle. Unless you are a serious anourak then the differences are very slight.

Posted

Where Land Rovers are concerned I'm a SERIOUS anorak, and also a MOT Tester, so they will be buggered if I test it.

LOL!I'll not be bring my [ficticious] 1960 TD5 90 Defender to you then!

I wonder if I could impound the said "ringer" and wait for clearance from the Doovla and take all the best bits off, source a replacement NEW chassis and s/h axles etc to "restore" it to original-ish spec?

Snowy Update

Posted Image

Posted Image

This was in amazing condition, if I'd spotted it in the summer I'd swear blind it was an always-garaged never-used-when-damp kinda car. To see it pressed into service going to Sainsbury's in the snow rocks.

Home-made no plate and wonky headlamps suggest some low-speed rear-ending action (oo-er)

Posted

I thought that, but I remember the front end being pretty tidy and non-bent. Bizarrely the home made plate was stuck on top of a real number plate, I noticed when I uploaded the photo but the rear plate matches, and seems original.

Time for this years update.... I'll try to be more observant from now on, I promise :)

These first few are all one the same road, within about 400 yards of each other. I've christened it "Shite Street".

And these are only just around the corner, on the estate behind Shite Street. Incidentally, there was one more spot - a CatPiss no less - but the riot van parked outside the house was a little unnerving.

Is it me or have these all but completely died out ever so suddenly? I'm sure there were loads around when newish, and then kablam - none. Apart from this one, natch.

And just a couple from work

Cue Scene Tax Riots....

Incidentally, there's another potential spot in this carpark. A lass who works in my department cruises to work every morning in a 1986 Honda Acty pickup. Legend(ess)! But it's always been dark when I get to work, and she leaves before I do and I've never been arsed to walk back to the car, get my phone, find her Acty, get a photo, back to the car, back to work.

Perhaps the fake number plate is a crime prevention device? I've heard various stories of car number plates beiing vandalised recently. The cars themselves remain untouched however said vandals go and either rip off the plates or break them.

Really odd crime, maybe the Nova owner stuck the cardboard one on as a sacrificial lamb?

Not sure if it was on here or RR but this road has been mentioned a few times in the past. There used to a Mk2 Escort under CPAT, Chevette and also a matt black Capri down there, possibly where the Transit resides. You're right though, it is definitely Shite Street. Even though it's a bit of a diversion I usually go to the M1 this way to see what's about...No pics of TR Enterprises though?
Posted

There's still a catpiss down there but it looks too big for an Escort. I've just been told I'm due to go that way tomorrow so I'll see what other goodies I can come up with.Is TR Enterprises that place near the filling station? They've often got a few goodies, by far the most interesting to me is the Acclaim and the late Maestro parked amongst the classic stuff :)

Posted

Hey..Yes, TR Enterprises is the place near the junction. I've seen the Acclaim all over the place in the last year or so - good to see it driving about. I may have spotted the Maestro but not sure. I havent been past in a few months (it depends on work). That road is bloody good for spots. I seem to think that hi-lift Transit used to be in 'camo' spec before the green.I'm 95% that the Mk2 Escort has gone from there now, but wpild be interested in the new CPaT. The matt black Capri that was there was coincidently bought buy somebody on RR. There was a thread in Readers Rides about it but rarely go on RR nowadays so not sure if it's still about.

Posted

Yeah the Transit was camouflaged... that's been there yonks. Did the guy on RR who bought the Capri also have a black MG? Can't remember the fellas name, lives in Ravenshead. Bought a Capri a while back locally.

A few more from Shite Street, the riot van had gone this time :)

Here's yer CPTC

Jag, Rover Fastback, yet another Transit and a 205 ragtop

Acclaim and Maestro are still at TR Enterprises

And one the way home, this pulled out in front of me and did 25mph all the way. But for once I wasn't cursing, it was LOVELY. Two old giffers in it, local registration and the original dealer sticker turning crinkly in the back window. I would happily break the legs of anyone thinking of putting a redtop in this.

His username was dave*******, ******* being what seemed a load of random numbers. I think there is somebody else on there with a similar name. No idea if he had an MG, and dont know where he lived.Nice update with the pics! Oneday i will have to have a nose around that area for some spots.

Isn't Pillock referring to that Nathan_Buttmunch bloke or whatever his name is?The one who had the Sherpa Coupe that looked it had been painted with black hammerite (I recall having a good groffle at it In The Real World with Bo11ox at one of them santa pod shows... you know the one, he reckoned it had some mega-hp B-series, then promptly got his ass served on a plate by a stock 1275GT on the quarter...)

Posted

Yeah Nathan rang a bell, but then I worried that I was thinking of Benzboy...... I get all confussled with realnames vs forum names. And I've met Benzboy, who's a top chap, I've never met man_with_sherpa_coupe.

One spot today..... ACTEEEEEEEE!

Lass at work owns this, quite often seems to arrive with random shite in the back too.

Oh, and the RR next to it hasn't been photoshopped to be twice as big as normal - Acty's really are that tiddy.
