Tyre speed ratings

How important is it? I need one new tyre on the wife's Borat TDi and was curious as one website has the tyres but when I put my reg in it says it has none for that speed rating.

It's only important if you plan on doing those speeds, IE not important at all on a Bora TDi.

The reason I ask is because I don't want some prick who can't drive anyway telling me they won't sell me a tyre because it's not the correct speed rating.

They might, I had some bellends refuse to put me a tyre on my camper cos it was "for a car" even though the load ratings were fine. Did me a favour anyway, cos I went to an independent down the road and got a pair of tyres fitted for half the money.

As long as you stay away from the big chain places you'll have no bother.

Ah ok then, cos it was national tyre I was looking at.

Yeah they're likely to moan. Have you looked at the usual online places? Camskill/Blackcircles/tyreleader? I've never found any of the main places can come anywhere close on price, even when you factor in a tenner a corner fitting and balancing at any old backstreet tyre place.

I need it done ASAP. Tbh she should not have drove it today. I will be taking it off and taking it down in my car where ever I go.

Where will everyone go to get these cheap online tyres fitted once these backstreet tyre places go bust I wonder ?

You could buy the fitting machine in the liquidation auction.

Its tread thieves, they steal the grooves from your tyres to make remoulds you know.

its a bit academic in this country as the speed limit is 70 so even a T rated tyre will exceed that

I get mine fitted at a garage who don't sell tyres but have the fitting and balancing machinery. There's another garage nearby who also have the machinery but do not sell tyres. Both are more than happy to fit my Tyreleader purchases, swap tyres between wheels, do balancing etc.

Is this not common?

My local tyre fitters are branching out into MOTs now as they aren't really making anything from supplying/fitting tyres. Such is the competiton from the online suppliers I can get them to fit tyres at £15 a corner and still save at least £10 per tyre on their competitive fitted prices.

I hope the MOT side of things goes well for them as they are an honest and extremely professional operation and I am quite fussy about where I get tyres fitted, I've had a set on Sparco Cromodoras wrecked in the past by a fitter using tyre levers/crow bars.
