airbag light on the octaviashite!

hi all,

you wont know this, but i dont like electrickery when it comes to cars.  i like carburetors and mechanical stuff. and steam.

therefore, i was a little irked to find that, after the wife last used the octavia, the airbag light was on.

now, i have an obd2 - usb cable for my laptop, along with some shite generic ebay software.  will i be able to connect to the airbag thing and see what the problem is?

the octavia in question is a W reg 1.9 TDi.

thanks in advance,

Every time I've had an AB light come on, it's just wanted the connectors cleaned. Usually under the seat. Not much help I know, but I bet you it's something stupid rather than an actual fault.

Does your wife move the seat when she uses it? It'll be the wires under the seat that go to the pretensioner.

You might still need to use vag com to reset the light though.

I reset the light on my Octavia with a cheap OBD II cable and VCDS lite. Quick and painless.

cheers for the confirmation :-)

this^^^^ give it a quick wiggle and if it goes out you have found the problem. Then either clean it up or just cut out and solder together.

i take it its the usual routine for doing the soldering? disconnnect battery and wait a bit first?

ok, cheers LP.

so, the plan is, disconnect battery, get under seats, disconnect plugs and give clean, reconnect, battery back on, reset light (i Hope), win at life.

cheers all!

this man speaks the truth

it took me longer to set the damn laptop up than it did to reset the light.  the fault code was indeed the drivers seat connector intermittent fault (or words to that effect).  gave it a good wiggle, reset, jobs a good'un  8)

thanks everyone!
