They were assembling CKD kits to reduce the taxes due on cars sold within the republic.   So any early Sierra first registered in Ireland would be from that factory, I would guess there would be a few survivors.   Once new European rules came in about tarriff free imports of cars there was no point in having an Irish plant and Ford swiftly shut it down.   The tax laws also made car based van cheaper and they made a few Sierra estate vans.   

 

 

There was a thread on here about someone who had a Sierra estate van from there.

Is that the saltwater injection bay?

 

Strikes meant some Suds stood outside, unpainted, in the sea air. If you think they must have been parked on the breakwater on a rough day, then perhaps the fact that the steel mill which made some of the steel for the cars (in southern italy) used salt water for cooling it on hot summer days when fresh water was in short supply.
