What I don't get is you A frame with a tiny lightweight 205 over some of britains worst roads with no problems, the moment you do it in a heavier tow vehicle in a more legal looking way you have an off.

Glad plod didn't try and have you jailed and it looks like you will have to go back to the 205 for towing duties

Part THREE to commence sooner than Part TWO A!

Part 3 consists of this:

2B614345-4E39-4585-8BBD-B3D4B8FE8E6E_zps

A Honda engined 416 GTi.

Part 2a comprises this Honda engined 216 +

Parts...

I love it when a plan comes together!

So, the plan -

Spunk £275 on 416 GTi. Unfortunately it's an Auto. I like auto's, but not in a 416 GTi.

Swap manual gearbox, pedal box etc from Joe's old car into 416. Take anything else I need/could be useful.

Offer anything else to fellow chod botherers.

Scrap what's left of the white 216. Unfortunately.

Bugger! was gonna ask about the headlining! Just noticed it will have a large rectangular bloody hole in it ;)

Does the ex-chompy Rover have a sunroof vulg? Maybe Joe could sort something out with Tam for the headlining in that if it didn't.

Yes you can have the bonnet badge - if there's anything else you need ping me a message and we can sort something out.

Would be good to get both red 400's together for a photoshoot 8)

Ex-Chompy Rover did have a sunroof and still does in fact.  I can't really think of anything else I need from the white one because I've JUST SPENT MONEY ON THINGS.  Inconsiderate to wait until after I'd spent cash before crashing, I think.

We should definitely get both 400s together, wouldn't be that tricky either since we're not too far apart.

Great stuff John, nice one.

I'm surprised to see a 416 GTi doesn't have any kind of spoiler. But as Vulg and I discovered, the little ducktail things from a 216SLi do fit on a 400.

Aye, the red Chompy breaker and the white one both have sunroofs, the red one's is electric if anyone wants bits to convert.

I have a roof panel from a pov 214, non-sunroof, but it's been out in the weather for yonks and the lining cloth's buggered, but it's free to anyone who wants to recover and re-cover it.

I can confirm that the bits you'll need for the manual conversion are in fine fettle John. The gear oil was changed last year. You'll need the clocks to swap too, because autos have the selector indicator up the middle. I'll tell you now, just check the bulbs in this one, one of them has gone, and I'd hate you to find that out just after just put the dash back together!

There's a chance one of the drive-shafts is bent... there's a mega wobble from something now. It could just be a bent wheel though. Keep the outer CV joints though, they're recent. Thinking about it now, I may have one or two straight 216 manual drive-shafts with jiggered CV's.

you A frame with a tiny lightweight 205 ... with no problems...

Nah mate, that was Will, my kid brother (explosive_cabbage). He jack-knifed the Samara with the Escort on the A, on his first time out, just yards from home, but learnt from it, and happily A'd the silver 306 back from Manc, then pulled Ed's Rover 25 pos across the Yorkshire Dales behind the little Lada.

He then got his veg-powerd 205 on the road and has done all sorts, including that 306 in the-legendary-somebody-stole-half-my-car thread.

Oh, you may see the white 216 has a tow bar on it.. I fitted that last year from the Chompy breaker, and I think I've only used it twice with the 'A'... once rescuing the Justy from Wetherby, and the other was bringing a 106D back from Preston for a mate.

It's fairly new, but I doubt it'd fit a long-arse 400.

Aye, John has the chance to build himself one of the best R8's in the country - my white one has benefited from all the best bits of two others I've broken in the time I've had it. The shell's buggered, but most of the rest is tip-top.

And yes, over the years, both the Chompy Rover (which still contains the mint, complete 82k SOHC D-series) and the old blue 214 have donated parts to shiters all over the country.

In other news, my photographs have come back from the developers brother Dan, who came to the rescue with a borrowed tractor, has finally sent me this moment of miraculous extraction:

Video is great, despite the fact I look like I'm going to deck it once it gets traction and moves. Shame I didn't - could have sent it to You've Been Framed and bagged £250 Joe!

Talks on-going with 416 vendor at the moment re collections from that there London. Allegedly* the 416 is a 40k miler. Remains to be seen whether this is genuine but for the price and spares availability that's the least of my worries.

You're lucky I dipped the clutch when it shifted, ha ha - I didn't want to cover you (and your new BWW's leather) in mud from the sinning wheels, too!

Well posh innit?

I've not sat in one quite so luxurious. Leccy sunroof on that one too.

Posted

Oooh, another thing that would be handy is three rear door Viking badges, they make perfect centre cap badges for my new alloys.  Your new 400 looks pretty smart inside, though I'm not a fan of grey leather seats.

They "do make", or they "would make"...

*goes off to check 414 thread*

Edit: Ooh.. interesting!

Anyway, John may have one or two of those spare, I think I have one or two or three available for you. Keep yer peepers peeled, I'll have a look for you.

Posted

Was gonna say Joe if you have some spares kicking about could you chuck them in so Vulg can have a set of 4.

I think with all this R8 love lately I could add OMGSCENETAX and charge £50 for the set*

Mind you, 275 for a car is a bargain compared to this price for service parts for 2 E23's that I've just blown...

why didnt you put it through as 2 orders of 100odd each? 30 quid off that way;)

I did in the end Neil ;) that screenshot was just before purchase!

I've got one set of service items (for the C reg 728) going to my old mans, as that's where the car is and the other coming to mine where the X reg 728 is. Keeps CPL away from moaning.

They still owe me £75 as well from the timing belt kit I returned for the Civic so hopefully get that deducted from one of the orders too after my arsey e-mail.

They only took 3 days yo refund me whe I ordered the wrong calipers for the e30..

hit and miss i suppose.

can annoy them on twitter. anyways sorry for ot.

Posted

Same purchase price, same colour, how can he not win?

Posted

21 days I've been hassling for a refund! I will beat it out of them eventually...

Rover will probably conk out on the way back knowing my recent luck ha ha
