I have bought a sensible replacement for the 405.

Sight unseen, it gets delivered tonight.

Unbelievable amounts of fear until then lol.

Photos later.

Ah the sweet joy of penniless shite purchase.

Ha ha - am afraid not!

Is indeed French.

I'm sick like that...

Not Sportwagon or Vectra.  Thank feck.

So, a Citroen Vectra then. You do like to live life right on the very edge don't you. Well done that man.

Its French, so is it a Reliant or a Rover 75, mmmm tough call

You say bought unseen, but you think it's French, my vote goes either to a small, wheeled version of the Eifel tower, or a Renault Dauphine Clio off Cavcraft

Well, I've seen pictures...

If it's not a green MGF with head gasket unhappiness, a sellotaped on door handle and "get you home" tax, you need to rethink your opinion of sensible.

Well, I've seen pictures...

Yes but if it's from Cavcraft you'll see the pics of a doom blue Clio, but end up with a Walls Ice-cream freezer

So yes. I thought having two old banger 405s would be the answer to everything. Hmm.

So. Dealer dude disappeared off into the night, leaving me to ponder my purchase. Exhaust is blowing (defo from towards the manifold) and there's a sharp clunk on drivers side when braking hard or going over a hump. The boot needing fixed I knew about. Goddamn I have the fear! Is this the worthy replacement or another bag of misery! Who knows. The lottery of shitery...

So I guess these are the priorities. And then I can maybe consider the timing belt. Which is not a cheap task!

Why don't I know any mechanics!

Oh dear. Anticlimax alert!

Agh, buyer's remorse!

Do you want a PDF walkthrough of the cambelt change? Apart from poor access, the cambelt being close to the inner wing, the XUD cambelt job is easy and almost foolproof. You can use standard bolts and an allen key to lock everything up.

I legalised it this morning. Went fer a wee drive today, and can report that it's sound in general. Got some fettling to be at fer sure, but aye. I think it might be a win! Bonus extras too. Bluetooth parrot thingy which works well, and working AC. Which is a first for me. Brakes are next, and I found a brand new set of pads in a bin a few weeks ago. So WIN so far. Autoshite sticker is in place. Beep and wave assholes!! Xc

Yes, I do find applicable car parts in bins. I think I'm defo on my own on that one! So far so good. Autoshite appears to still be friendly, but Monsieur Bolleaux owes me a pint ;)

It sounds like more and more of a winner. I have an assortment of 405 parts at my mum's (off the top of my head - strut mount, handbrake cable, oil filter) you can have for £postage.
