This continues to just work. I can leave it sat for days and it always starts. Done some faffing, albeit hardly noteworthy compared to some on here

Polished it the other week along with its brethren:

The head was covered in oil seeping from the rocker cover which was getting on to the manifold making it smell so I replaced the rocker cover seal. The old one was well past it, surprising as in all other aspects it's well kept - all calipers are free, handbrake good, coolant clean etc so why they let this go I don't know. Gave it all a blast with some brake cleaner afterwards to get the crap off.

Not too bad under there now. It's leaving it's mark from somewhere though, it seems to be dripping from the back of the block somewhere, down the sump. I may investigate further at some point.

The rad, HT leads, dizzy cap all look quite new too. I thought I'd take advantage of the weather softening the glue and peeled the giffer bumper protectors off before as well. I was a bit concerned they might be hiding scuffs but it seems they did their job before scuffs appeared.

When I was reading up on it I found out they were launched in the UK in April 1992 and this was put on the road in May so it's probably one of the oldest UK cars left. Well I found that interesting, anyway :-D

Think I'm gonna move it on soon, as it really is just sat there. I think I'll re-MOT it 1st, it's only due in Sept but it's only done 2000 miles since the last one and had no advisories on that (or the one before) so I'm fairly confident it'll pass. I'll update when I've been bothered to do it.

I love that mad spoiler fitted to your gtv, and I always thought the ones on the some 156's were way over the top, hence MEGA.

Nice Honda by the way.

Not a huge jap fan BUT that looks a really nice straight motor JT

Some older cars just look so well cared for and genuine and this is certainly one.

I would!

Nice Honda by the way.

It does look rather massive on that pic, I think it's just an unusual angle. It was part of an 'Aero pack' they did, which gave you that, a small front splitter (now long gone as it's only rubber) and the 17" teledials.

Yes, someone's clearly loved it for a long time. Only problem is, I've grown quite attached to it now and keep wanting to spend silly money keeping it maintained. One of the rear arches has started to go and I'd really like to tidy it up but I can't weld.

Sigh, today has not been a good day!

The logbook arrived for this today. Check this out...

How the fuck I didn't notice that at the time, I do not know because I made a point of checking over the bloody form before I bought it. And how nice of the seller to negate to mention the fact in the advert for it or on the phone or when I looked at it, cheers mate. I know they get written off from the slightest knock (you can tell from the car that it's nothing major, I think it was either a bump to the rear or the front wing as both it and the rear bumper have painted at some point) and it matters far less once it gets to this age, but still. I'm more annoyed at myself for missing it. Buyer beware etc etc.

Then, remember I posted that lovely pic of those bumper protectors removed? Well what a great fucking idea that was...

Yes, the very next day and you can even still see the outline of where it was, what an absolute, 100%, 24 carrat retard!!!!! Because I have 3 cars at the moment, I keep forgetting which one I'm in, hence for a mind boggling moment I thought I was in the golf and had loooads of room and definitely wasn't going to scrape the gatepost. I can't look at the pic it makes me sick, I'm so annoyed at myself. So in one day through a couple of mistakes I've pretty much managed to wipe 90% of what little monetary value this thing had to start with!

On top of that, the Alfa failed it's MOT today. It always has issues with the rear brakes at MOT time, last time it failed on the handbrake and just passed on the foot brake, this time it was the other way around. So I spent the afternoon fitting some new rear pads and dismantling/cleaning the calipers and resetting the handbrake and how does it repay me....by refusing to start and blowing the 30A EFI fuse every time the ignition is turned on.

I'm going for a lie down!

Not seen that on a logbook before. Does that mean its been written off? What a bummer, however it shouldn't matter too much on a car this age and value BUT the owner should have piped up, that is what would annoy me more!! The owner conveniently keeping stom. But im afraid thats the society we live in today  :-(

That's is indeed a shitty day but if it's any help the bumper thing made me laugh out loud and wake the baby up so I'm in the bad books now

This is still here. I've done nowt with it, other than drive it to the shops once a week to keep things ticking over. Anyone on here want it?

To recap, it's done 87k miles, MOT to sept, everything works on it, there's a rust bleb at the very back of one rear arch (other just starting), one in the corner if the rear screen and it's just going at the back end of each sill (sill itself feels solid though). Oh and a fucking great big scrape on one bumper corner  . It's also probably either CatC/D as it's had a VIC check in 2011,something which the seller kindly neglected to mention. The only issue with it is a rear wheel bearing sounds a bit droney, but doubt it's at MOT fail stage yet and it drips a couple of spots of oil when parked up.

Anyone on here want it for £500? This is a fair bit less than I paid, but Cat C etc etc and I've ordered an exhaust for my Alfa.

Woah, don't all rush now. Don't be afraid to bid if £500 is considered a bit salty.

This is still here and I'll still sell it if anyone is interested.

Took it for an MOT and it......failed. Handbrake below efficiency (I fucking hate these calipers that have the handbrake operating on them, it doesn't matter what car I've had, they've always been a bastard to get the handbrake thought the MOT). So it will have 12 months ticket on it in the next couple of days. Got an advisory because the front tyres are wearing on the inner edge so probaby wants the tracking doing. Not bad for 23 years old though, he said it didn't look like it had ever been welded and was nice and solid underneath (I know every advert for an old car ever has this cliched line in it but he actually did, so there!)

This is lovely, great looking car Hondas 2nd best after the S2000.

Do you know if it's Cat C or D as I suppose that makes quite a difference to the insurance?

Posted

AFAIK there is no requirement to inform your insurance company. I've certainly never been asked and never seen anywhere to input the information when getting a quote.

But I shall try and find out

Posted

This is just what I'm after really.  What's the craic with Cat C and insurance then - reckon it's liable to hoik it up?  Anyone?

I sort of figured that when swapping my insurance over to it, they would look it up, see that it's Cat C and charge as such.

Posted

Also, how many miles on it?

Posted

Lord Sterling seems to be having hassle reinsuring his Cat C Merc, but when my wife's car was Cat C'd we had no issues reinsuring it, other than the insurance company explaining that any payout if it was written off again or stolen would be reduced.

Posted

Yes, it cost £90 to insure.

Just checked and it was Cat C in December 2010. VIC check was June 2011.

Wow, this ad's falling faster than WTC building 7.

Have a bump to the top.

Perhaps a new set of pictures might help to move it along?

Nice car's these.

Did this sell?

Still love my V70, but keep looking at this.

Do these have a cambelt or chain?

Posted

I did register my interest but....

My savings are nearly hitting the 500 clams mark, and that clearly means a collection thread at some point.

Somebody hurry up and advertise a Volvo before i do something stupid again!

Nope, it's still here, mainly due to my total fail at attempting to sell it properly - what you see here has been the sum total thus far.

Should hopefully have full MOT this week at some point following the fitment of two new rear calipers.

These have a belt, there's a sticker saying it was done at 70k and it's written at the service book but that was a few years back. It's on 87k now.
