As things stand the Aerodeck might be for sale as well, it's a shit load more interesting than a Meriva/Zafira.

Don't get a Meriva. Yes, ours has never actually really gone very wrong (apart from me sealing the sump with blue hylomar, it didnt like that. Nor did I following my mate around the mot building with a roll of blue towel as it pissed everywehre when he moved it...)

SWMBO likes it 'because of the high driving position'... Maybe I should replace it with a transit or something?

Stuff does seem easy to fix on it, but it's a vauxhall, and as it's a jacked up corsa there's room to work under it. About the only positive thing. I start to cry when I know I have to drive it anywhere...

I think a zafira would be better than a Meriva, but I'm open to new experiences - ooooo'eeerr. :)

Anyway all a bit moot as I am skint at this point in time. :(

There wasn't much interest in it at the block. Couple of punters lobbed a few low bids, and left it at that. I got it for a shade over £1800 when fees etc were taken into account.

Pros: Looks nice, low mileage (55k)

Cons: BRICK slow, gearing was strange, seemed very tall in 3rd and up. Maybe I'm used to relatively short Rover gearing in a manual 'box.

that said, I got plenty of interest, and the buyer, who came all the way from Louth in RoI said he'd have it before he even saw it in the metal. It's for his daughter who lives in Liverpool.

So, if you fancied one, you could pick one up at auction, use it for a while and move it on without too much difficulty, if my experience is typical. I was asking £2750 for it, and got 2 and a half bags.

What engine? I've driven a few of those Astras (all petrols mind) and thought the gearing was too short, certainly top was not super tall in the way the old Cavaliers used to be (3000rpm = 90mph).

They're right up there on my list of cars to own, still fetching good money though as you say.

1600cc 105 BHP. Like I say, it was just the impression that I got, I could be wide of the mark. I assume the car is relatively heavy, coupled with the fact that I'm not used to these motors that may have given me the wrong idea.

Bought our old Zafira off a friend of my parents in 2013 who had it from 6 months old (it was a 53 plate). He was going to trade it in for a new car and they offered him £450 part-ex as the interior was "well used" and it had 3 weeks MoT left. I had a look over it, checked all the lights, tyres, fluids etc and punted it in for the test and it passed. It was on 104,000 miles and had never had a cambelt change but at that price I played "Cambelt Roulette" with it, ran it for 8 months, topping it up with oil as and when it sounded like a sewing machine and the spanner light came on then sold it on Forest Gumptree for £650

Ive mooted the idea of an early zafira to swmbo, and whilst she doesnt not like them, she doesnt want 7 seats, as she says she will always be the one asked to drive. Her sister has a 57 zaf, and is always 7 up with nan, kids, auntie pauline etc (most of swmbos family dont drive...)

tis a fair point I always feel
