Things that go put put put overload award. Put put generates electricity, which powers a pump, which turns a thingy that in turn turns a shonky ferris wheel model:

The Leyland Clydesdale skip wagon is the cover star and feature restoration of the latest 'Classic and Vintage Commercials'...

Looks like they've put the correct font number plates on it now...

Great stuff. Looking forward to all the steam shows this summer - first up Abbey Hill at Yeovil next weekend. Diamond T is cracking, although I think I would rather sleep in the ballast box than the little tent.

Well, initially they were built for towing Rogers M9 tank transport trailers. After the war, there were loads of them surplus, so they became popular

with heavy haulage and heavy recovery operators. Not sure about the UK, but in France they were still popular for doing this kind of stuff until the 1980s.

We had Scammells and later on, Antars for tank tugging. However a large-ish number of wartime Diamond Ts came over on lend-lease and were auctioned off in the UK which is why many ended up with civilian heavy haulage outfits, fairground operators and recovery firms. The number plate mounting was quite usual, I suppose it was not much fun drilling through those bumpers....
