drivewaymyway Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Foad... When did you move over from Rwanda ??
DodgyBastard Posted February 16, 2018 Author Posted February 16, 2018 He's still in Fife. It must be my flag (which I've just changed back to Scotland) he's referring to although I'm sure East Kilbride is much like Rwanda... Jim Bell 1
DodgyBastard Posted February 16, 2018 Author Posted February 16, 2018 My least favourite thing to work on is brakes so having bought all of the necessary components for the Lada recently then looking at the rusty mess which was the Ladas braking system I decided to farm the work out to my tame mechanic. Here he is looking pleased to have finally finished sorting the brakes. That means today will be the first time I get to drive it on the road. Jim Bell, richardthestag, CGSB and 6 others 9
DodgyBastard Posted February 16, 2018 Author Posted February 16, 2018 Video!! Nothing exciting happened apart from a slipping clutch and it idling too high.I spent most of the day fucking about with the carb, trying to make it run nicely then trying to make the lada airbox fit properly on the weber and finally bled and adjusted the clutch so it no longer slips. Jim Bell Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Dunno man. That sounds quite exciting. The Moog 1
Felly Magic Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 I agree with Wilsonsquared on this one, video on Lahdidah
twosmoke300 Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 A grabbing clutch and high idle could be very exciting They_all_do_that_sir 1
DodgyBastard Posted February 16, 2018 Author Posted February 16, 2018 I only discovered it on the motorway, it was a bit like driving a variomatic 340. Jim Bell and oldcars 2

I also bled the clutch and adjusted it so it no longer slips. If anyone has had the pleasure of driving a Lada they will know that the throttle pedal is usually far too high up which makes driving it awkward and uncomfortable. DSC_0048 by srblythe, on Flickr This morning I spent some time adjusting the throttle linkage in order to get the throttle closer to the floor yet still fully functioning when pressing it. It's a whole lot better than it was but not perfect. Stanky, Dirk Diggler, Scruffy Bodger and 9 others 12
Felly Magic Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 The 1200L mum had was crying out for more power and a 5th gear, at an indicated 85 ish, it was screaming, was a tough old tank though. I think the last of the line 2107 injections had the luxury of power steering!

KruJoe Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Have you had the carb apart at all? When that Samara was the same age as this is now, the diaphragms in its carb went to shit, and of course it wouldn't behave. Rather than rebuilding it and cocking the job up, I bodged on a good 205 1.4 carb, which worked well enough, and accidentally made the car faster.

Rather than rebuilding it and cocking the job up, I bodged on a good 205 1.4 carb, which worked well enough, and accidentally made the car faster. I replaced the original carb with a Weber, it's running better now, I just hadn't set up the mixture correctly when I first fitted it. I also sprayed a bunch of carb cleaner in it which managed to make it run a bit worse for a bit before clearing up and running smoother. It could probably be doing with a rebuild but it's usable as it is so I'll leave it and fit the Fiat engine over the summer.
Felly Magic Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Now that wing isn't in primer, it looks tons better, well saved there FOAD DodgyBastard 1

oldcars Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 That Lada is class. love it. Looks great in those photos.
DodgyBastard Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 In other news, knob van is booked in for a test today, it starts, stops and goes OK, I'm sure the welding is finished and most of the bulbs work so I'm excited to see how it goes this afternoon. Exiled_Tat_Gatherer Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Now THAT is a proper working vehicle............ drooling on the keyboard! edit for - good luck getting 12mths road permission forthwith. mk2_craig and DodgyBastard 2
Datsuncog Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 ^^^ No joke, the Tippex tape versions are actually quite weatherproof. Eight years ago I puckishly used one to obliterate a greengrocers' comma on a metal sign at a local slipway (because I'm a dick and a grammar Nazi rolled into one - it was something along the lines of "Key for bollard's can be obtained from Harbour Master") and it's still holding up well despite being lashed by saltwater waves for the best part of a decade. So as an emergency pinstripe kit for a few quid, I'd highly recommend* it. John F, KruJoe, MorrisItalSLX and 9 others 12

DodgyBastard Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 Very nice so now what's the plan with it, I'm not entirely sure, I'm split between selling it or keeping it for a bit and fitting a turbo diesel engine which I have sitting for it. I'll definitely keep it until Shitefest where one lucky* person could have the pleasure of using it over that weekend if they were to fly up instead of driving. The Moog and Junkman 2
garbaldy Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Selling it oh I wish you hadn't said that, come on then How much ? loserone 1
