It's just carbon, that's what happens if you don't drive a car hard enough and it's why an Italian tune up works.

I really tried an Italian tune up on the way back but it started reeking of egg so gave up and kept the revs low. it's fine now having removed the backbox.

So here's a brief history of my relationship with the guy I got the 127 from. A month ago I saw he posted up the Bedford Rascal for sale, I offered him the Tata for it, we did the deal but the following day he contacted me to say he couldn't insure it for a reasonable amount.

He asked if I would swap my metro for the Tata back, I said yes if I could have his trailer.

He said ok, I ended up with the Tata, Rascal and a trailer and he got a metro I paid £100 for...

I sold the Rascal last week for £475 after finding it was just too small for me to use for anything.

He contacted me today asking if I'd sell my e36, I was unsure and asked if he still had his 127, he then offered the swap my e36 for his 127. Of course I jumped at the chance and went along and did the deal. The e36 was out of mot on the 1st of September and I wasn't really planning on putting it in for another one at the moment so swapping it for another car with no mot wasn't an issue.

I'd already decided the other day to try selling the trailer as I want to save for a recovery truck so after I got back to the unit a couple of Bulgarians came along and gave me £550 for the trailer.

Result!

I'm sure a lot of people are probably thinking I'm a total fucking dick!

I'm thinking I need to be introduced to this guy! I'm sure he'd have something he'd be willing to swap for my Astra.

That's a nice wee motor what's the story with it ? Is an ex rally car.

It was used for rallying in the 90's and last on the road in 93. other than that I pretty much know fuck all about it.

In case you were wondering, the above rant was about my local Volvo specialist Ron Sealant. Mrs foad took her 360 to him hoping that because he was an apparent specialist he might have an inclination as to why the brakes were dragging intermittently.

We left the car there for a week, hadn't heard anything so went back on the Friday.

I asked if they had looked at the car and they said yes then proceeded to make a fuss about getting it on the ramp. It's quite a cramped yard so they had to shuffle about some cars first.

When it was up on the ramp I asked if they had found any issues with the brakes, they said they'd taken it on a run but couldn't find anything wrong.

They also used 1/4 of a tank of fuel on their "run".

They told me it needed each jacking point welded as well as the full inner and outer sills. They were saying how I'd be able to get a good look underneath when it was on their ramp, I said I had already seen it on my own ramp and knew what did and didn't need welded and that I was a welder so it wasn't any of their concern. The look on both of their faces was priceless.

With that job ticked of their list they tried desperately to pick at more things they could "fix" Ron pointed out a fuel filter that wasn't supposed to be there, it was of course for the fuel pump and had Volvo stamped on it. When the car was back on the ground, they opened the expansion tank and said there's very little in there, Ron pointed to the water pump and said it looked a bit damp, he asked hopefully if the timing belt had been done, I confirmed that it had along with the water pump around 5 months ago.

We decided to take the car away which they didn't seem too bothered about.

Anyway, I had a look at the brakes, the pistons were pitted/rusty and the bleed nipples were fucked. I ordered new calipers at £50 per side and fitted them last night. What a difference, the car is smooth, no brake drag or binding and is a pleasure to drive again.

I can only imagine how poor I'd be if I'd left it at the garage...

Buisness in trying to make money shocker?!?!.!? I have to ask, why didn't you just do the brakes before taking it there anyway?

The point in taking it there was to get the brakes fixed, if I had fixed the brakes beforehand then taking it there would have been pointless.

My disappointment with the garage was that they were just as clueless as I was regarding what was wrong and were trying to add other things to fix which weren't asked for or needed. Why did I take it there in the first place? It's my girlfriends car, she didn't want to have to spend all of her time replacing every possible brake component in order to get to the bottom of the issue so taking it to an apparent specialist seemed a sensible thing to do.

So you're saying on RR that you're after a luxobarge? And you're in Scotland?

Surely you can only be interested in a luxury Volvo that's for sale here on autoshite ;)

A 240 estate with 2.3 engine and manual box would be ideal.

Love the wee fiat. I bet that would be worth a fair bit of coin if you spend a spend a bit of time tidying it up a wee bit i.e sort out that weird looking front end.

What did the headlights come from? Really odd looking...

I don't know, I'd like to fit a 128 front end.

Guessing a Fiat 130 Saloon? (Or maybe a late 124)

Liking the X19 wheels at the front / Cromodoras at the back (off a 124 Coupe?)

Cracking wee cars - I had a 127 GT for my first motor.

Looking at the top mounting, I think they might be from a Mk 1 Capri.

(Edit, no - maybe Mk 3. Mk 1 has sort of square surrounds).

So whats planned for the old Steam engine?

Are you going rallying.

Richard was trying to rally it but was having issues with the coolant boiling from the crack in the radiator. I plan on swapping it for a 240 or selling it.

What a lovely GLT that is. I hope to own another 240 one day :-D
