Blimey!

Does that have a separate chassis?

I'm not gonna like that ... fook serious grot on the tata

 that's rot on a 2001 car. Makes me feel better about the patch needed on my sill. Can the tata be saved?

Tata is slowly getting there, I acquired a new reel of solid mig wire 1.2mm thick, it's much better than the 1.2mm flux cored wire I had been using.

I went and bought an A-frame

It was certainly cheaper than buying a trailer and will no doubt get used soon when Derskine breaks down...

I took the Alto out for a run. I think it would benefit from a battery although I did buy a new one a few month ago, a heavier duty one might be better.

That looks like a good A-frame, nice workage

It's an intertrade solomatic which is pretty much what everyone else uses.

Did you once have a 306 saloon in maroon, with white wheels? It blew past me in the early hours of the morning the other day, and I'm sure it was Stig Blomqvist doing the steerage.

Yeah, the guy who now owns it is from Kirkcaldy.

I know previous owner fetched it from Preston he told me. Glad you enjoying it

I've been patching up the Tata piece by piece, the welding looks fucking horrendous, I started of with 1.2mm thick flux cored wire then managed to acquire 1.2mm solid mig wire and finally managed to find a reel of 0.8mm wire.

No close ups because I am ashamed of my shoddy welding...

I took the Alto out for a spin on Saturday

It's still running sweet, no mechanical issues to report but there's some lacquer peel in places and some scuffs and scrapes appearing with light rust marks.

I gave these 360 glt alloys a quick clean up and paint with the aim of getting some tyres on them and fitted to the 440.

I traded it with Derskine for the Renault 18 gtd, the deal was I got to keep the interior to fit to the phase one 309 and I got the good driveshafts but Derskine decided it would be easier/quicker to order a pair and fit them to my car than removing them from his, fitting to mine then having to source another pair for his 309...

I'm thinking about going back to the original colour with the 18.

In other news I took the 305 SR in for a test at my local place.

Blimey, nothing a good overhaul of the braking system won't sort out though. What happened to the wheel bolt!?

Posted

No rot - that's a plus.

There was rot in the A pillar, the door was hanging off when I first got it but a couple of hours welding it saw it looking better. The 305 estate is starting to go that way on the A pillars, seems a common area to rot on them.

The wheel bolt was missing when I got the car, I knew it was going to fail before I took it for a test (It has no exhaust) so I didn't bother to fix anything that wasn't important for safety's sake.

Is that the same Tina from a page back?

I have spoken to the owner of the Cortina who says he'll think about a straight swap...

I hope he does, because otherwise domestic harmony will be challenged as I consider reliving the mid-90s with a 240GLT...  ;)

440 is dead!

26689256601_b0713827b2_k.jpgDSC_0219 by srblythe, on Flickr

I was doing some spirited driving, cornering fast enough for the tyres to squeal when after coming around a corner the car died and I pulled into the side. I tried starting and there was a brief cough and splutter but other than that it felt as though it had run out of fuel. I got a jerry can of fuel into it and it still didn't fire so I tipped a small amount of petrol into the air intake and it started briefly. My thoughts are it's fuel pump related, perhaps something has worked its way loose from hard cornering, it's happened in other cars etc. Anyway after continuously trying to start it the starter made some funny noises then jammed. After the aa guy tapped it with a hammer it freed off but when trying to start it, it was slow and didn't sound great.

This came into the yard on a recovery truck.

So I gave them £40 and a dead 440 for it.

It starts and drives, interior is filthy and the rear shocks are seized.
