Disappearing

What cars that were plentiful are now disappearing? I don't mean Cortinas & Vivas that are all pretty ancient now but stuff still being built around 2000. Just today I saw a Mk1 Megane & a Peugeot 306 and couldn't remember the last time I'd seen either of them, but haven't really noticed that they are now dwindling. What else fits this category?

Any prestige* car over about 15 years old A8s,LS400s,S Classes, 7 Series'. People used to love an old barge, but this generation have all disappeared ,presumably to the oval or Easterrn Europe.

You never really saw them everywhere though, always a bit exclusive.

They are fucking everywhere in general but I can't help but notice how few original shape BMW minis are left compared to the increasingly ugly newer ones

Don't see many Pug 406 saloons, the odd ones left are invariably immaculate though.

Citroen Saxo, hardly ever see one around these days and they used to be the weapon of choice for youngsters.

Cars built after 1986 (copyright Junkman) are not on my radar to begin with but now you come to mention it stuff is disappearing fast. Our internal cars at work are a good barometer of change - we must have had the last Mk2 Astra I can remember driving and we are currently dragging the arse out of a Mk 1 Focus. Have not seen too many of those elsewhere and the last Escort has recently left the staff car park - an enormous bitumen black tide mark ominously marked its last MOT year on earth. I saw a K11 Micra at Asda yesterday and that looked strangely out-of-time amongst all the teetering blobby modern stuff.

Also Citroen Xsaras, cant remember when I last saw one!

XJ40s. The already low numbers that survived the Scrappage Scheme are dwindling at a rapid rate. When was the last time you saw one?

Those bargetastic 90s Honda Accords were completely wiped out by the scrappage scheme. Very few remain.

Also, there are hardly any J-reg Protons left.

Volvo 340/360/440/460/480. Volvosaurus maximus satanicus survive in large numbers, especially in the Caledonian savanna. Volvosaurus domesticus minor, virtually kaput.

E36 BMWs.

These have pretty much disappeared. They've gone from plentiful to extinct in two years.

Two years ago, you were literally throwing them away and scrapyards were full of them. Now, nothing.

There aren't enough left for them to generate a classic following, they'll just be extinct.

Why?

Drifterz innit?

I'd say Driftboys are helping to preserve em, the decade of chav that proceeded that is the reason for their demise.

I'm racking my brain(s) here and I can't remember the last time I saw a MK3 golf. Someone will be along shortly to disprove that but hey ho!

No your right MKIII Golfs have pretty much vanished where I am (and have been gone for some time) if you do see one its a GTi, rust is probably what killed most of them off.  I guess in the next three years or so the MKIV will have disappeared too.
