brownnova Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Wow. Great work spotting that BBC lorry in the wild. Had to look it up as I had no idea what it is. Internet sez 1969 Albion Clydesdale.Yeah I was surprised to see it too! I'd never seen anything like it before.
brownnova Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 Morning!! It's been a while since an update to my chod spotting activities - but here are a few that I have seen (and been able to take pics of) First up an Opel Manta spotted in my old haunt of Blacon whilst out dog walking Next (possibly one of my greatest ever photographs... the dog spotted a cat just at the moment I was taking the picture!!) The MG Midget that rusts merrily on a driveway in Blacon. Someone's Granny up next (Why fit those LEDs though?) Spotted in Tescos car park Spotted in a pub car park Spotted in the town hall car park! (This was absolutely spotless!) And finally back to Tescos for this Collette special edition! Have seen some prime chod since moving back to North Wales, including a Talbot Alpine, Datsun Patrol and Porsche 944, just need to be quicker on the camera!! danthecapriman, michael t, Jim Bergerac and 7 others 10
primin2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I live in North Wales, Anglesey to be precise. Is that Aston a DB5 by any chance? if so, that guy is sitting on a goldmine as he could indeed get silly money for it, even in that condition and he obviously isn't going to restore it himself. There is a rather tempting abandoned Volvo 44 on someone's drive locally to me, and I have a garage, I'm so tempted to pop over and make them an offer. Belt drive auto transmission, what could possibly go wrong? I also know someone who has a gorgeous pale blue Vauxhall Royale saloon in their garage, owned by their late grandfather from new. It hasn't turned a wheel in at least ten years to my knowledge. I suspect they'd want silly money for it though. The grandson says he's going to restore it, but pulled it out of the garage and left it on the drive all last winter before putting back in the garage. The previously unmarked bumpers got covered in rust as the house is near the sea. Maybe he is getting the car into a worse condition so as he'll have more to do when he comes to restoring it!
purplebargeken Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Damn, was going to don my Volvo/Daf anorak and correct you. There is a chap on the island by the name of Joe, he is into his Dafs/Volvos. He has opened a watch sales/repair shop recently. If you do get the Volvo it might be worth your while going and saying hello to him. He would be a mine of info, etc.

I always think its odd when someone leaves a car on their drive for years and years and won't even listen to offers (I know Aston man has had many!) I must get round to enquiring about that Estelle when I go back to work in September.
primin2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 The Royale is a saloon, or what's left of it is! Thanks for the info ref. Daf/Volvo man. My parents-in-law had a Volvo 340 DL auto. once, it was quite good fun in a strange kind of way as when you drove it the revs went up and down but no actual gear-changes happened. There's a fantastic car/bike museum on Anglesey where they have an amazing range of cars, from Escort XR3's back to Austin 10's. Well worth a visit and they host car groups, possibly good place for a meet? It's called "Tacla Taid" in Welsh, which rather amusingly means Grandad's Tackle in English!
brownnova Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Mornin! An update to the Shite spotting today, mostly local spots this time... First up continuing the 'in car park' theme, this Sherpa convertible was in Homebase car park - *Late registration madness!!! Just around the corner from my new house, down a track I found this P5! Would love to own a P5 one day. Out walking the dog and spotted this Landy on a driveway. Just around the corner there is a yard with a few festering 4x4s in - This early Rangey probably the pick of the bunch In the same yard is a Metro GTa - which I found myself strangely drawn to! And finally... Went out for a jaunt to Mid-Wales to Powis Castle, and happened across a Marlin owners club meet... Well that's all for now folks! Happy spotting! mouseflakes, Cavcraft, worldofceri and 7 others 10
brownnova Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 If the tax disc is anything to go by its been say for about 18 months, which is a shame really!
brownnova Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 That P5 looks fablious! Well the P5 disappeared about 3 weeks ago.. I'm hoping it went off to a good home...
brownnova Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 A spottings update now! Just a little one - you see it's now dark when I leave the house, and dark when I return. So spotting activity is limited! First up these two beauties live on the same road as me! These seem to be popular on AS at the moment! Here's the sports version. same bloke has a Calibra too! Two doors down and a 75 lurks... It look immaculate! But I've never seen it move... Meanwhile in Lidl's carpark... Not a symphony, nor an adagio, but for sale on my route to work... Also for sale locally (It might be gone now as I took this picture about three weeks ago...) And finally!!! I recently went to Llangollen car museum (A half term treat!, and a lovely run over the horseshoe pass) and my goodness did this catch my eye!!! By far my favourite car of the collection! That's all for now... More to come soon hopefully! worldofceri, mouseflakes, Cavcraft and 7 others 10
beko1987 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 A fair few of us licked that at sf15. Utterly awful but amazing at the same time. Wouldnt like to be in a large accident with it!
brownnova Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 Of I went for Christmas morning razz in the MX5 (well the Mrs was in work, and I wasn't going to the in laws until lunchtime!) Another beautiful day in North Wales. As I passed a truck yard I spotted this lovely Christmas day spot It looked resplendent in its JRG/rust combo... A couple of days previously I saw this... Bit it's not as good as the Transit! Cavcraft, danthecapriman, Junkman and 4 others 7
Cavcraft Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 That Transit, or rather the background, looks like that yard near Pontybodkin. If so he usually has some proper Autoshite type trucks knocking about. Anyhow, regardless of that, top work for a Christmas day, that's dedication for you!
brownnova Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 Yeah that's the one! I'll keep a closer eye when I pass in future! Cavcraft 1
Cavcraft Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 I think that Four Girls Coaches just down the road used to have an ancient Volvo truck still working, and the car repair garage up the road used to have a boss metallic purple Cortina Mk3 2000E in there, but that was probably 18-20 yeas ago now.
danthecapriman Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 That Transit!! Not seen a mk1 with that type of body for ages. There's a few mk2's with the same body around, I think there is/was one on ebay recently.Great stuff.
brownnova Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 So I didn't win a Prelude apparently... My disappointment levels are high.... I know what will cheer me up! Sharing some spots! It's been winter, so some people have kept their interesting vehicles squirrelled away in heated cocoons... Not these people!!! First up a piece of wedgy Germanica which I found in Asda's car park - so i parked next to it naturally! Next up... In a yard not to far from my house... This appeared Was a bit on the rusty side, I'm imagining a resto job for the company opposite ( edit - Just checked the MOT history - it's just had a full year's ticket put on it!) Also in their yard... Yep that is a brown SD1 in the background. I walk past this den of temptation every Sunday on my way to church... This keeps appearing locally... And this was in another nearby garage's yard for a couple of days... looked very tidy, and a great colour scheme too! Tesco's car park yielded another Merc 190 - nice plate! And saving the best* til last... driving home the other day I spied this purple Diahatsu Cuore for sale! Just 29,000 miles and clear evidence of careful giffer ownership. I wasn't surprised when I drove past on the Monday and it had sold over the weekend! That'll do for now... Off to lurk in bushes in the hopes of even better spots next time! uk_senator, egg, mouseflakes and 4 others 7
brownnova Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 Prynhawn da! As they say in Wales.... Today's brownnova spotted thread has a theme.... the 1980s!!!! So step back in time with me, to a time where the following vehicles were available to buy new! And we start tonight with a lovely truck registered in the 80s.... which still earns it's keep as a house removals van to this day! Often to be seen trundling round with the contents of someone's house within it's cavernous interior! Amazing to think these were still being made into the mid 80s... This one is regularly seen around the town of Mold. Up next... Fire up the Quattro... Breaking with the 80s theme for a moment.... This was outside a local purveyor of vehicle repairs recently. I thought it was pretty awesome! I'll move chronologically onto the 90s with the next posting! Sheefag, mat_the_cat, Magnificent Rustbucket and 9 others 12
brownnova Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 They always say, start your next point by linking to your last one..... So... remember the 80s.... Here's one more 80s spot. Rotting peacefully at a garden centre on the Wirral.... One from the early 90s then... GSi3000 no less!!! Outside Aldi... this guy (or gal) has class! Montego (from a distance....and outside Tesco... do i spend all my time in supermarkets??) And.... (drum roll please...) Yes, that's a Hyundai X2!!! (and a Nissan Juke.... but let's not dwell on that. Oh and this time we're outside B&Q... just for a bit of variety) And no... I won't be doing spots from 2000 onwards next time... worldofceri, Junkman, Sheefag and 4 others 7
Cavcraft Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Brilliant stuff, keep 'em coming please! That garden centre BMW has been there for years now, must be worth the old 'note under the wipers' trick one day I reckon. brownnova 1
brownnova Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 Brilliant stuff, keep 'em coming please! That garden centre BMW has been there for years now, must be worth the old 'note under the wipers' trick one day I reckon. Yeah I hadn't been there for a few years and was surprised it was still there to be honest! Cavcraft 1
richbraith Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Excellent spots, I'll have to start a thread sometime with some of my archive. There's a Triumph 2000 with a roof rack in Bridlington that looks like it's actually been in the sea, fate conspired me to miss taking a picture of it and ruined my day the other day, but I will get it.
brownnova Posted July 10, 2016 Author Posted July 10, 2016 I know we've all been on the edge of our seats awaiting more epic spotting activities.... That may be happening elsewhere on the site, but here we'll keep a sedate pace of bad photos thanks! So from best to worst this time! When I took the MX to get welded, the guy who owns the garage had just finished working on this: He's an SD1 fetishist, so feel my cars are safe with him! Next up I went out to Liverpool... for a night out! But thankfully upon arrival there was a small display of classic vehicles (the group I had gone out with lost me for a while....) These dangly mirror Sierras are everywhere.... Shame it's not a Lagoooooona There was a Borgward Isabella too.... but I was getting hurried along by the rest of the group by the time I got to that..... Up the Horseshoe Pass t'other day. And finally.... BXs are getting some love around here, so I thought I'd pap one.... Except it was raining hard, and I misjudged the wiper wipeyness. So we are left with the second worst photo in the entire thread! Off to a car show laters, so maybe some more interesting chod pictures! Cavcraft, Supernaut, Magnificent Rustbucket and 6 others 9
brownnova Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 I was fortunate to venture to far away shores this summer! Florida the destination! But the preconceptions of America as the land of the Crusty Cadillac or the bodged Buick were dashed... there were more financed "Huuundays", "Neeesaaans" and "Haandas" per square mile than anything else! I did however see a lovely bronze Triumph Spitfire, a 'many shades of blue' MGB (Sherpa cabrio) and a rusty TR& on a driveway. Of course, camera not to hand. And when I started pointing my camera towards Dodgy looking Lincoln Town Cars and Cadillac deVilles, I got THE look... But one of the days we went to a weekly car show in Kissimmee, and here I was allowed to take pics. So enough pre-ambling it's picture time! Well it has to be a Nova to start! The famous Edsel, just keeps getting better with age! Ooooh Barracuda.... Lincoln: A rare european! Nice little Fiat 124 It's an american car show, there was a general Lee of course! This was nice... whatever it was. I forget And a Corvette - best shape for me! In the town of St Augustine I saw this weird hearse... you could go on ghost tours in it! And in Universal studios there was a diner, with some motors parked for street dressing! Back in Wales now, so more 'shite' chod spotting shall resume! mercrocker, Skizzer, Magnificent Rustbucket and 8 others 11
Mr A Lawrence Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 That 80's registered removal truck is indeed in regular use. We used that company to move us from Holywell to trefnant this February and that's what turned up!! Magnificent Rustbucket, brownnova and chaseracer 3
Junkman Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 This was nice... whatever it was. I forget '38 Chevy Sheefag, brownnova and Magnificent Rustbucket 3
