Hero to Zero. How quickly does your desire for car come and go?

I had a new (at the time) sort of 2006 shaped Fiesta when my Calibra got written off. I liked it for about 1.6 days when the cramped cabin and nasty plastics started really getting to me.

The 1990 Honda Prelude has been with me for almost a year now and no chance of me parting with it anytime soon, if ever.

Just a matter of finding the right car/bike and enjoying the process of buying/selling chod until the right one turns up. Then keep that and buy something unsuitable as well!

The Prelude (4th or 5th gen, I can't remember) was LJK Setright's favourite automobile so you're in good company. I would rather like one but the level of electronics scares me.

Sensible considering that the camera always lies and the level of shill bidding going on; I salute your iron willpower.

Odd thing is that my car desire has diminished over the last 3 years or so. Directly in line with the degree of fucked back and legs, how strange.

I also start with enthusiasm, then this dips with the list of faults and work needed, then may rise again. The level of desire diminishes with the bizarre fact that every car I fancy suddenly rises out of budget almost immediately I have just about enough money to purchase one. I have said before, if you have a car for sale on ebay let me know. I'll bid and then watch sadly as every fucker in the universe then proceeds to outbid me.

Not quite what the OP was focusing on but what the heck.

I have an affliction which manifests itself in me buying Fiat Panda's.

I bought a pretty well mint one recently and it leaves me cold, whereas the bastard one that broke down on the test drive costing me £150 to get the train home, is painted in parts with black gloss by brush, has accident damage and no feckin' heater, I absolutely love.

Lusted after a 100HP mk3 and sold it 3 months after buying it.

So  on the fickle scale I'd say about 90.

I never thought I'd like a Jag, always seemed a bit 'Old Man'. That is until I borrowed H.Imps X308 V8, Despite me needing to economise I've bought the bugger and absolutely love it. So much so that it gets washed every week, and I'm even concerned about where I park it.

I don't really put that many miles on my car these days, so can (just about) cope with the thirst, but the V8 rumble and comfort more than make up for it. I'm even beginning to like the colour!

I do this all the time. I see a car when I'm out and think 'why have I never considered that, it's perfect!'. I then read up on it and find out everything there us to know about it, look at the classified's, read the owners forums. I will sometimes bore the other half about it and watch her roll her eyes. I might even have a cheeky bid on eBay if I'm feeling brave. I then find out all the common problems it can have and that seems to dampen my enthusiasm a bit. A few days later i spot another item of chod on my travels and the whole process repeats...

Mine is 3rd gen so nothing scary electronics wise. It is the twin carb version also, so no fuel injection to worry about. I think LJK Setright was rather taken by the 4WS versions of the Prelude, which mine doesn't have either. As basic as Preludes get, but all the better for that IMHO. Great car. The previous owner (Mike Knight of this very parish) did a fantastic job sorting the car. It was immaculate inside and out. Still is actually. Needs a bit of weldage behind rear bumper and a few small rust blebs sorting, but I have planned this in once the weather becomes reliably* better.
