Can diggers and stuff just be hauled out, dusted off and sent back to work after a tumble, or do they tend to bugger up expensively?

If you switch off the engine when it goes over you will probably be ok. If it ran on while on its side or upside down, the oil pickup in the sump wouldnt have been submerged so it would loose oil pressure and maybe damage the bearings.

I added to my plant fleet with a wee Rob Roy dumper.

 

Built in Monifieth (beside Dundee) by the long defunct Low Foundry. Lister diesel which starts with a spin of the starting handle and flick of the decompressor lever.

 

 

Here it is with another relic of GB's plant manufacturing industry, the Hymac.

I'd never heard of the Rob Roy but it's a fine looking thing. The pair look an absolute treat and if I was offered the actual Hay Wain or that picture to hang in my lounge you can shove the Constable.
